Dear BRU Researchers,

You will find here below some calls for proposals that may interest you. The calls are organised by topic when possible, with the indication of the concerned scientific areas.

Please note that for H2020 calls, you can always make an expertise offer in the Programme’s Partner Search Tool in order to participate and contribute to projects being promoted by other organisations. Even for other funding schemes, we can always assist in looking for projects being promoted by other entities. In these cases, please contact the BRU Office for how to proceed.

PORTUGAL 2020 – Projetos em Copromoção I&D Empresarial (Collaborative R&D projects with Companies)
  • Application period: open until 31st January 2020
  • Funding: minimum of 150 000€ of eligible costs for projects up to 36 months, with the company ensuring at least 30% of the total funding; funding rate for research institutions based in Lisbon is 50% maximum)

Independent Social Research Foundation Mid-Career Fellowship Competition
  • Application period: open until 14th February 2020
  • Funding: up to the limit of €83,000, intended as providing full relief from all teaching duties and all associated academic administration for a period of up to one year

CHIST-ERA Call 2019 for Research Proposals
  • Application period: until February 14th 2020 (short proposal submission) 
  • Funding:
  • provided by funding organisations in participating countries 
  • FCT ensures the funding for Portuguese partners - maximum 100€/project for up to 36 months with funding rate of 100% for academic organisations and of 50% for companies

The British Academy Global Professorships 2020
  • Application period: open until 19th February 2020
  • Funding: awards are for a 4-year period; the British Academy will provide funding of up to £187,500 per annum, and up to £750,000 over 4 years, while the host UK institution is expected to contribute up to £37,500 per annum

FCT Call to Scientific Employment Stimulus 2019 - Individual Support Grant
  • Application period: 
    • until February 10th for the  between January 30th and February 26th 2020
  • Funding: research contracts for PhD holders up to 6 years (300 contracts are expected to be funded), distributed into different categories:
    • Junior researcher– PhD holders with limited post-doctoral research experience or no scientific curriculum after obtaining their doctoral degree in the scientific area of application
    • Assistant researcher – PhD holders with over 5 years of post-doctoral research with relevant experience in the scientific area of application and limited scientific independence
    • Principal Researcher- PhD holders with over 5 years of post-doctoral research with relevant experience in the scientific area of application and demonstrating scientific independence for the last 3 years
    • Coordinating researcher- PhD holders with over 5 years of post-doctoral research, holders of the title of habilitation (agregação), with relevant experience, demonstrating scientific Independence and recognised leadership in the scientific area of application

  • Funding: maximum of 250 000 € for projects of up to 36 months (300 projects are expected to be funded)

EEA Grants Portugal – Fund for Bilateral Relations Call #1
  • Application period: open until 31st December 2020
  • Funding: between 5000-15000 € (up to 90% of eligible costs) for projects between Portugal and the Donor Countries (Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway)
  • Eligible activities:
    1. matchmaking events; 
    2. technical cooperation and exchange of experts; short-term internships; training actions;
    3. workshops and seminars on topics of common interest;

Mar2020: Apoio à Inovação e Transferência de Conhecimento entre Cientistas e Pescadores (Support for Innovation and Knowledge Transfer between Scientists and Fisheries)

  • Objective: financial support for industries to contract research consultancy services up to 20 000€ for a maximum duration of 12 months, including:
    • Organizational management and innovation
    • Digital economy
    • Knowledge transfer in R&D and innovation management

EEA Grants Portugal – Blue Growth Programme Small Grants Scheme #1 – Initiatives for business growth in Startups
  • Application period: until 29th May 2020 
  • Funding: between 50k€-150k€ (funding rate ranging from 25% to 100% of eligible costs, depending on State Aid situation from partners)
  • Objective:
    • to finance initiatives for business growth in Startups enterprises to develop, apply and commercialize innovative products and technologies
    • to promote cooperation between enterprises and research institutions, in order to foster user-driven research-based innovation

EEA Grants Portugal – Fund for Bilateral Relations – Open Call Bilateral Blue Growth #1
  • Application period: until 31st December 2021 
  • Funding: between 1000€-5000€ (expenditures with travel and subsistence allowance support)
  • Main objective is to contribute to:
    • search for partners for donor partnership projects prior to or during the preparation of a project application and the development of such partnerships; 
    • the preparation of an application for a donor partnership project under the Blue Growth Programme’s Calls.
