Just about a year ago, on January 25, 2019, I launched my business; At the Root!
A big thank you to all who came to the opening; it was a lot of fun, and wonderful to start this adventure with new and old friends.
Since then, At the Root has been busy. Here’s a recap of the events from 2019.

|
Just before the launch, we collaborated with the Vermont Women’s March to host a sign & banner making workshop for the Women’s March in January. About twenty people attended and created signs of resistance.
|
|
|
|
After the launch party, it was time to jump in. We collaborated with 350 Vermont to create the “Re-Constructing Climate Change” Diorama Exhibition! We hosted nine artists who created dioramas about the causes, effects, or potential remedies of climate change in our world. We held an art opening on April 18th, where 350 Vermont was there to talk about their work and report back from the Climate Walk. The show was then at the Radio Bean Coffeehouse for the month of May, with another opening on May 21st.

In March, At the Root collaborated again with 350 Vermont, supporting the 5 day Climate Walk, by coordinating two art builds. The Climate walk was from April 5-9; and went from Middlebury to Montpelier. We made banners, flags, signs and patches. Over 200 walkers joined 350 Vermont for the Climate Walk, which culminated in an action at the statehouse in Montpelier.

On March 30th, At the Root led a workshop “Creating Resistance” at the Building a Better Activist Conference at the University of Vermont. The workshop was designed to lead participants through steps to discover, discuss and hone in on messaging for their campaign, while utilizing existing or desirable artistic skills.
Participants left with skills, and a framework to apply to something in their day-to-day lives.

In April, At the Root launched the first Over Dinner Series event. The Over Dinner Series is a semi-monthly educational event, in which participants share a dinner experience with a different presentation and in-depth discussion period by a local changemaker.
|

|
At the Root also offers project management services;
|
|
|
At the Root formalized a working relationship with ERGO/movement (a collaborative performance project based in Burlington, VT), in early 2019, to provide project management for the development of a large scale, multi-media performance. And... the time has come!
"They Say a Lady was the Cause of It" opens at:
Main Street Landing Performing Arts Center on Friday, February 21st & Saturday, February 22nd, 2020. and at the Middlebury Town Hall Theater on Friday, February 28th, & Saturday, February 29th, 2020.Doors 7pm, Performance 7:30pm.

At the Root is working together with congregation Ruach ha Maqom to develop an annual fundraising and event planning campaign to meet the needs of its growing congregation.

LOOKING FORWARD!
In 2020, At the Root is excited to share that we are continuing The Over Dinner Series.
How do you make a time management plan that meets yours and (most) everyone else’s needs with kind boundaries, balance, and centering self-care.
On March 8th, we are collaborating with Vermont Access to Reproductive Freedom to print t-shirts and other items for fundraising. Stay tuned for times and tickets.
Jen Berger, from At the Root will be offering two printmaking workshops at Gardener’s Supply in the Intervale;
On February 2nd, from 1-4pm, we will carve our own Valentine’s cards. Bring your own (4x6) image, or make one in the group. Leave with your own re-usable linoleum block, Valentine cards and the knowledge to make many more. Cost: $40
On March 22nd, from 1-4:30pm, we will carve our own create block print botanicals. Carve fun botanicals to stamp on canvas bags. Bring your own (4x6) image, or make one in the group. Leave with your own re-usable linoleum block, two printed canvas bags and the knowledge to make many more.
We will continue to add other workshops to the calendar throughout the year.
