 Crozier joined Thorneycroft's MI in 1900, comm. Manchester Regt. then att. WAFF in Nigeria. Appointed 2 i/c 9th Royal Irish Rifles in 1914, CO on 1st Jan. 1916 & commanded them until promoted to command 119th Brigade the following September. From an Abbeville Window (1918-19).
 Authoress was attached to the branch of the YMCA which received in the war zone the relatives of those lying dangerously sick or wounded in hospital, a classic of work in the rear areas. The Path of Glory.
 Rare novel of the Gallipoli campaign acclaimed by J.B. Priestley as "The most convincing picture of trench life on the Peninsula that we have had so far in fiction" & billed by the publisher as "the Great Scots War Novel." In it are chronicled the experiences of an Islander from enlistment in a highlander regiment to service at the Dardanelles &c. George Blake, a highly successful author & journalist, served with the 5th Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders at Gallipoli & was wounded, & this work is based on his experiences. The Winding Road Unfolds.
 Rare personal account of an under-age soldier in the Liverpool Regiment which comes close to classic status, & probably would be so considered were it more well-known. Hope, having already served for a year at home with the Royal Engineers, joined his bn. near Ypres on 20th July 1917 & served as a signaller, working on lines &c., until wounded near Gauche Wood during the Cambrai retreat at the beginning of December. Many experiences of action, training, life in billets &c. are skilfully recounted here. Orig. brown cloth, gilt, VG in very rare & attractive dw, this rubbed/chipped at edges but neatly renovated. Sleeve notes explain that "This book has been expanded by the author from the actual diary that he kept as a young Scots private in the Ypres Salient in 1917. The brief entries that are printed in italics at the beginnings of the chapters are quite authentic... From time to time, in periods of rest, in reserve billets & in hospitals, he wrote up these notes into a connected story of his experiences... a dwindling band of comrades share the life of the trenches... The journal covers only six months. It ends as it began with the sight of a long road unrolling from the open end of a moving car; first a lorry & last an ambulance." The rear flap includes a portrait of the author in uniform. Inscribed on title page: "Thos. S. Hope." A very nice example, accompanied by a VG 1st Ed. of the 1965 Tandem paperback which bears quotations from the text & press reviews of the original edition to the back, such as..." My War Experiences.
 War memoirs of Crown Prince Wilhelm, German army commander, with much on the 1914 campaign, Verdun 1916 &c. The jacket blurb (front) explains that: "throughout the War [he], held very important commands on the Western Front. In the battle of the Marne his 5th Army formed the hinge of the great German enveloping movement. The Battle of Verdun was fought exclusively by the Crown Prince's Army; the author states his objections to von Falkenhayn's persistence in attempting to capture the town. It was on the Crown Prince's Army Group that the weight of Nivelle's onslaught fell in 1917. He was also the victim of Marshal Foch's masterly counterstroke in July, 1918..."  RFC pilot's experiences after a forced landing in the German lines in Belgium; he evaded capture & regained allied lines after thirteen weeks.
