*NO SCHOOL: Day Between Semesters
(POSSIBLE Snow Make-Up Day)
WINTER WEATHER INFORMATION
*POSSIBLE* AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITY CANCELLATIONS
If SPS buses are on snow routes AND there is a late start, after school enrichment classes/events will be cancelled. If this does occur, make sure you have an alternate plan set up and communicate that plan via email to Kristina Cerise or Annette Godon. (The "attendance" email is listed toward the bottom of this newsletter). Don't forget to remind your child as well.

Take a minute to review SPS policies and procedures for winter inclement weather. If your child rides the bus, double check your bus snow routes.
NEWS FROM NURSE SOMI
It's going to be icy in the coming week, and we want to prevent injuries from occurring while kiddos walk outside. Please remind them that there may be ice (even under the snow!) and to slow down.

Influenza B is also making its rounds and causing fevers and lots of sickness. I'm hoping to start a fun handwashing class for all the classrooms soon!

Thank you!

ADVOCACY: FOCUS DAY
Washington State PTA Advocacy - Focus Day

Do you want to ensure every student receives the social-emotional support they deserve? Do you want to do more to prevent gun violence? Do you care about closing special education funding gaps?

During each year’s legislative session, Washington State PTA holds its annual Focus Day that brings people together at the state capitol to advocate for our legislative priorities.

If you're interested in making a difference on behalf of our students, you have a few ways to do so:
  1. Attend the event in Olympia on January 20 and meet face-to-face with legislators (registration required).
  2. Print out a postcard at the following link, fill it in with an issue you care about, and put a stamp on it.
  3. Sign up for WSPTA action alerts so you can be informed and involved on a regular basis.

Advocacy postcards are available in the Lawton office. Feel free to take as many as you wish. Your voice matters.
AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS:
SPRING REGISTRATION INFORMATION
If your child is currently enrolled in a Lawton After School Program activity, the last week for this session is the week of February 3-7, 2020.
AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS: SPRING 2020

PLEASE READ!

Whether this is your first time registering for an after school activity or not, it's good to go over the registration process to make it as smooth as possible.

STEP 1: Make sure you create/update your account on 6crickets.com. Please know that sometimes the titles of classes appear on 6crickets prior to the registration date. DO NOT add your child to the waitlist early. The system will remove your child's name when the actual registration begins.

STEP 2: Mark your calendar. Lottery Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, January 27, 2020 and goes through 9:00 p.m. on Friday, January 31, 2020.
  • This is a lottery system.
  • Add your child to the waitlist of NO MORE THAN ONE class per day. If you add your child to the waitlist of multiple classes on the same day, the system will automatically remove your child from the waitlist.
STEP 3: Please be patient.
  • You will be notified via email by 6crickets no later than 8:00 p.m., February 4, 2020.
  • Each "won" class generates its own separate email and may arrive at different times to your inbox, so please wait until 8:00 p.m. before emailing questions about enrollment.
STEP 4: Payment/Second-Chance Registration
  • Complete payments for classes "won" in the lottery will be due by Saturday, February 8 by midnight. If payments are not received by this time, your child's spot will open up for Second-Chance Registration.

*The PTA offers a limited number of scholarships and can offer financial assistance to families requesting full tuition for one class only. Families wishing to take more than one class on financial assistance will have to make arrangements directly with course instructors.

Please direct ALL questions to afterschoolprograms@lawtonelementary.org.
Second-Chance Registration will be open from Monday, February 10 (9 a.m.) - Friday, February 14 (9:00 p.m.). Unlike regular registration, Second-Chance Registration is not a lottery. If you see an open class, register your child and pay for it at that time.

Lawton Spring After School Program classes begin the week of March 2, 2020 and run through June 12, 2020.
