Saturday, February 29: Annual DMPG Retreat
Luskin Conference CenterThe 4th Annual DMPG Retreat will take place Saturday, February 29th.  All faculty members who are members of the DMPG are strongly encouraged to attend.

If you did not register before the deadline of January 31st, we can still accommodate you. E-mail AmyChen@mednet.ucla.edu to request to register.  

Childcare, lactation facilities, parking, breakfast, and lunch will be provided. 

Kelly Skeff, MD, Ph.D., Professor in Medicine, Stanford University School of Medicine, and a nationally recognized educator, will be plenary speaker.  

There will be a one hour division meeting focusing on quality improvement efforts, the opportunity to obtain certification to prescribe Suboxone, arranged by Will Carroll, HS Clinical Instructor, recertification in BLS and ACLS, as well as many other workshops.   



Division members HS Assistant Clinical Professor Veronica Ramirez, Hospitalist Section; Evelyn Curls, HS Assistant Clinical Professor; South Bay Clinical Lead; Anna Chirra , HS Clinical Professor, Iris Cantor-UCLA Women’s Health Center, Westwood; Jessica Liao, HS Assistant Clinical Professor, Santa Monica 16th Street,  and Hawkin Woo HS Clinical Professor, Internal Medicine Suite, Westwood will lead sessions on updates and best practices for using Haiku/Smart Phone applications for inpatient and outpatient, and Ambulatory Care Connect. 

Amy Weimer, MDDivision member Amy Weimer, HS Associate Clinical Professor, Med Peds Section (Santa Monica 16th Street), and Co-Director of the UCLA Gender Health Program will lead a workshop on caring for transgender and gender diverse patients. 

Division members Michael Lazarus, Professor of Clinical Medicine, Hospitalist Section; Russell Kerbel, HS Assistant Clinical Professor, Hospitalist Section; Patrick Bui, HS Asst Clinical Professor, Hospitalist Section; Robert Oye, Professor of Clinical Medicine; Arielle Sommer, HS Assistant Clinical Professor; Rachel Brook, HS Assistant Clinical Professor; and Jodi Friedman, HS Clinical Professor are also presenting workshops. 
GIM at the SGIM Regional Meeting, UC Irvine
DGSOM students and UCLA Internal Medicine residents made an impressive showing at the SGIM California-Hawaii Regional Meeting at UC Irvine last month.

Resident Maura Williams took First Place in the Clinical Vignettes category and DGSOM's Tracy Nguyen took Third Place in the innovations category for her work on PrEP in the HPACT clinic with Brianna Cowan and Resident Noah Ravenborg. The oral case presentation, which is considered the best abstract submitted, was presented by DGSOM’s Vanessa Nunez.

Congratulations to Dr. Joanne Elmore on the extension of her NIH/NCI R01 “Artificial Intelligence for Improved Breast Cancer Screening Accuracy: External Validation, Refinement, and Clinical Translation" grant that has been extended for seven years 01/01/2020 – 12/31/2026 via an R37 merit award.
