RUSI NSW LUNCHTIME LECTURE

Speaker: Colonel David Wilkins OAM (Ret’d)
RUSI member, and military historian
Subject: The Three Vietnam Wars - 1946 to 1975

David was the Adjutant of 5 RAR and also Company 2IC and Officer Commanding. He edited the 2009 edition of “The Year of the Tigers” – the history of the second tour of the 5th Battalion of the Royal Australian Regiment (RAR) to Vietnam. David was also one of a small team who researched and wrote the four volumes of “Rallying the Troops” - the history of the men and women from the Municipality of Ku-ring-gai who served in the Great War. 


David will provide a NOT TO BE MISSED presentation on the Three Vietnam Wars that will cover: 

 
  • the history of the three wars
  • causes of the 2nd Vietnam War from the Cold War to the 'domino theory' and Southeast Asia Treaty Organisation 
  • was the 'domino theory' a legitimate basis for fighting in Vietnam? 
  • the 2nd Vietnam War- was the US strategy appropriate or misguided? 
  • was it an American defeat? 
  • public relations as a principle of war. 
The Lecture is open to any interested person
commencing at 1.00 pm - 2.00pm in the Anzac Memori
al Auditorium, (downstairs with access via Liverpool St.)
 
RUSI NSW Members $10.00; Non-members $15
Sandwiches served from 12.00 noon (cost $8.00 to be paid on the day) 
Sandwiches must be pre-ordered by calling 8262 2922 on the Monday prior to the lecture before 3pm.
 
You can also bring your own lunch and eat it (between 12 noon and 1pm), in the auditorium where tea and coffee are provided.
Payment will be collected at the lecture.  Pre-event registration is not required.  

Our lectures are an great opportunity to learn about this period of history that had such a profound impact on Australia and other countries, and to network with your friends and colleagues.
