- February 2020 Hike -

Greetings Elderberries!

Thank you for your interest in the City of Pleasanton Elderberries Adult Hiking Club. The club will officially meet once a month at a local Pleasanton trail. The hikes will be led by myself and a special guest (excluding the first hike), an expert on a natural and/or cultural history topic or a City of Pleasanton beloved employee who loves the outdoors as much as we do. My hope is for you to get to know each other through your shared love for the outdoors and trek to other destinations together.

Please note hike dates and times will vary each month. The hike location and other important information will be announced once a month, a few weeks before the hike takes place.

See below for location and direction details to the first 2020 Elderberries hike:

The hike is free and open to the public. Please encourage your adult friends (ages 18+) to subscribe to this mailing list to receive details. This hike will be moderate in difficulty, approximately 3 miles in length and will include some uphill hiking.

Saturday, February 15
10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Augustin Bernal

8200 Golden Eagle Way, Pleasanton
Take Foothill Road to Golden Eagle Estates (between Bernal Avenue and Castlewood Drive). Take the Golden Eagle Estates road all the way to the end where it widens to the parking lot.

A glimpse of our hike:
  • February's hike will focus on bird life in the oak woodlands. Bring a pair of binoculars if you can. Some will be available for you to share.
  • We will meet at the benches next to the restrooms near the Staging area. Hike will begin 10 minutes past the meeting starting time. Please be on time.
  • From the Staging area we will take Golden Eagle Trail to Chaparral Trail and proceed to Valley View trail onto the Ridgeline trail to view 'Turtle Pond.'
  • Hike will not be cancelled due to rain, bring rain gear if needed.
Recommended gear:
  • Binoculars
  • Layer up and wear comfortable clothing
  • Boots or sturdy shoes are strongly recommended
  • Bring plenty of water
  • Snack to fuel your hike
  • Don't forget sun protection!
Can't make it to the first hike?
Don't worry, more hikes will come!  We hope you can join us next time. If you would like to propose a hiking location, time, or date please email mcerda@cityofpleasantonca.gov with the details.

If you have any questions on the day of the hike please contact the Naturalist cell phone (925)963-5016.

Looking forward to seeing you all very soon.

Happy hiking!
