Dear Timberwolves,
We hope you had a happy back to school week and have settled into the school routine after a restful holiday.
January brings interesting weather to the Seattle area, we want to remind you to stay informed through LWSD communication channels in the event of school closure due to inclement weather.
Your PTSA is off to a robust start! This week's newsletter is packed with everything that is happening this month at Timberline's PTSA, here are some highlights:
- PTSA Membership Meeting: Tuesday, January 14 at 7:00pm - If you haven't had a chance to stop by our daytime meetings, we hope this timing will work better for you! Come talk to us and see what we've been up to over the past few months. We'd love your input as we plan programs and events for upcoming months. This is a great opportunity to have your voice heard!
- MLK Jr. Day of Service: Monday, January 20 from 10:00am to 12:00noon - Our incredible FACE team has been working hard to put together this amazing service opportunity for Timberline families, limited spots available so make sure you sign up.
- Screenagers Next Chapter: Tuesday, January 21 at 6:00pm - Movie screening followed by panel discussion - a unique opportunity to watch the second Screenagers movie with our neighboring school communities and engage in a meaningful panel discussion with mental health professionals.
- Timberline Spelling Bee: Did you know that the first national spelling bee was held in 1925? We are excited to offer Timberline Middle School students the opportunity to participate in a joint spelling bee with EMS. There is an information meeting on Monday, January 14 after school in the TMS library.

News and Announcements
MLK Jr. Day - A Day ON, Not a Day OFF
This year, the Timberline PTSA has put together a special event to honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. Join other Timberwolves on January 20 from 10:00am to 12noon on a number of service projects. Our school, along with organizations thoughout the country, are coming together to help make this world a better place. The TMS Commons will be setup with a number of stations, each one helping a different organization.
This event is open to all Timberline students who are registered for the event. Parents and families are welcome to join but are not required. Most of the activities however, will be for older children and adults.
Registration is now open. Space is limited and registration closes on Saturday, January 18.
Important note: There will be peanut products at this event.

Screenagers Next Chapter
Presented By: Timberline, Evergreen, and Inglewood PTSAs
Date: January 21, 2020
Time: Doors open at 6:00pm, movie starts at 6:30pm

Screenagers Next Chapter is the second film in the series and looks at the stress, anxiety and depression experienced by millions of young people in today's digital age. Following the screening, a panel of mental health professionals will be available to answer parent questions. Click here to view the trailer.

Skating in Bellevue
November 29 - January 20
Bellevue Downtown Ice Rink
There is just a few days left to get in your family skating. Timberline Middle PTSA has joined with the Bellevue Downtown Ice Rink for a fun, fundraising opportunity. Between November 29 and January 20, mention "Timberline" when you go skating at the ice rink in the Bellevue Downtown Park and they will donate $3.00 for each paid admission. Print out the poster as a reminder and visit bellevueicerink.com for hours and prices.

Programs
Spelling Bee
|
Every year, thousands of students from all walks of life have the opportunity to participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee, one of the nation's oldest and most iconic competitions. Spelling Bee is a great way for students to expand their word knowledge and stand up in front of peers and compete in a friendly way.
We are excited to offer Timberline Middle School students the opportunity to participate in a joint spelling bee along with Evergreen Middle School.
There is an information meeting for students/parents on Monday, January 13 at 3:10pm in the TMS library for those that would like more information or to ask questions.

Essay Contest
Guess what time of year it is! It’s time to appreciate someone who has influenced your life and education. There is always one person who you look up to, the person who helps you through a problem, or sparks an interest. Who is that? Well, use WSPTA Essay Contest platform to share your appreciation.
Entries will be accepted from January 1.
Last day to submit your entries is February 1.

Volunteer
MLK Jr. Day of Service Volunteers
MLK Jr. Day is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities. Join our Timberline community and help with our service day. We need volunteers on Monday, January 20 to help run the stations setup in the Commons.
