Qantas domestic economy Lunch

Hello travellers,

Its been a big week

I'm back in Sydney feeling sad after the death of a family member. The death was expected but has filled me with grief none the less.

But life goes on. And I am happy to have the distraction of this blog to be getting on with. Sorry for my absence over the last fortnight.

The above image is of what Qantas served me for lunch this Wednesday last, in economy. It tasted OK, but the portion size was minute. I'm going to try and collect images of Qantas meals over the next few months to show how the options have been downgraded in my view.

What happened last week?

Significantly, Virgin Australia announced 'light' - basic economy fares to match its joint venture partner Delta's similar catagory of fare. I think this is a retrograde step for Virgin Australia, and will lead to a great deal of abuse heaped on Virgin Australia counter and phone staff bu travellers who have not read the fine print on their ticket conditions.

Traveller health also took centre stage with the development of a new Coronavirus in Wuhan, China. Up until the quarantine by the Chinese government of this city and others, Sydney airport, the landing point for flights from Wuhan instituted health advice and checks to all who arrived on the Wuhan flights. This story is still developing.

What's coming up?

Next week should see me and the blog back on track. Once again thanks for your patience over the last fortnight.

Boy have I got some reviews for you, so depending on what happens in the world of travel news, expect a few reviews in the coming week.

You can catch up on posts from last week below. Until next week . . .

Happy Travels,

Stephen

Light a Virgin – touches Basic Economy ‘light’ fares for the very first time

By 2paxfly on Jan 24, 2020 11:26 am

OK, is this Virgin Australia’s own little race to the bottom? An attempt to hover between a low-cost and full-service international carrier? For International Economy long-haul there are now four categories of fare: Virgin Australia has introduced on its long-haul international flights – Economy Light fares (Fare Class ‘M’), which are a basic economy ticket […]

Coronavirus! Run for the hills!

By 2paxfly on Jan 24, 2020 10:11 am

The history of animal virus’s transferring over to humans is pretty nasty. From HIV to SARS, bird flu, and now Coronavirus. Unlike during the SARS outbreak in 2002/3, when 800 people died, the Chinese government appears to be much more open about this Coronavirus, where the first outbreak was, what kind of threat it is, […]

A very important family member died, and I have been travelling too and from Adelaide for bedside visits, funeral, and funeral arrangements over the past fortnight. It has been a very sad time, but also very busy. I’m sorry that over here at the 2PAXfly website, […]
