Sumner Bays Union Trust newsletter

Sumner Bays Union Trust
Hi everyone,

It’s nearly the end of January and people are starting to get back into their regular routines. Today looks like it’s going to be a warm one. I’m very grateful for air conditioning at this time of year!

Learning Exchange
Our coordinator Eve Wingerath has hit the ground running since she started at the beginning of the month. Keep an eye out on our Facebook page and our soon-to-be launched Learning Exchange page on our website. It’s not up yet but it will be there in the not too distant future.
If you’re interested in running a learning event, let me or Eve know. Email Eve on learning@sumnerbays.org.nz

Loopy Tunes
Our preschool music sessions begin again on Tuesday 10 February.
Sumner: 9.30 am, Puoro-raki, Matuku Takotako: Sumner Centre.
Redcliffs, 10.30am, Redcliffs Uniting Church hall, 4 Augusta Street.
Each session costs $2 per child and is followed by morning tea and a playtime.

A CALLOUT TO ANYONE WHO IS ABLE TO VOLUNTEER TO SUPPORT OUR SUMNER LOOPY TUNES SESSION
Our most recent Sumner volunteer has gone and got herself a job (which is great for her but less so for us!). We need someone who can come in and set up the room, make sure everything is set up and cleaned up for morning tea, and clean up and pack away afterwards. It’s not hard work and saves me a lot of time. You get to meet lovely children and their parents/caregivers, and do something that is much appreciated by everyone involved. Let me know as soon as possible if you’re willing to help out. Ideally, we’d have a team of people who could be rostered on.

Coffee & Conversation
We have a guest speaker coming on Friday 14 February 2020. Her name is Glenda Martin and she is the outreach manager for Volunteering Canterbury. Come along and hear about what they do and how you can join in. Sumner Bays Union Trust is a member organisation of Volunteering Canterbury, and we’ve been fortunate to receive referrals of volunteers for various projects since we joined up.
Day & time: Fridays, 10.30 am, except first Friday of the month,
Location: Redcliffs Uniting Church hall.
If you have something interesting to talk about, you are invited to be a guest speaker at Coffee & Conversation. Let me know as I am organising the calendar for the year at present and would like to line up a range of interesting speakers and activities.

Happy Hour
Our first Happy Hour of the year will be held on Friday 7 February from 4-6pm  at the Redcliffs Uniting Church hall. At 4 Augusta Street. It’s a BBQ again. Refreshments are provided. The last two sessions have been great fun.

Movie Afternoon, Little Women, Wednesday 13 February at 1.30 at Hollywood Cinemas in Sumner
This adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s well known novel Little Women has had excellent reviews.
Cost: $10 per person. Please book your tickets prior to 1 pm as the queue can be long close to the time.

That’s all for now, folks,
Eddie
