Crosshatch Training Forum
The inaugural Crosshatch Training Forum will take place on March 2nd and 3rd, 2020, 8:30am to 4:30pm at the Squamish-Lilwat Cultural Centre in Whistler, BC. Registration will be priced at $50 for both full days of training, or $30 for only one day. The ticket includes a delicious catered lunch provided by the Squamish-Lilwat Cultural Centre’s Café. Please note that we are looking for volunteers, especially for two volunteers willing to help with the technical needs of the presenters (projectors and microphones).

Please connect with Shana Murray (cpm@hswc.ca) with any questions about registration, attendance and volunteering.

Please feel free to connect with Jody Kramer (jkramer@hswc.ca) with any other questions about the Crosshatch Forum.

The goal of the Forum is to build a coordinated, inclusive and effective response to sexual assault in the Sea to Sky Corridor communities, including presenters, representatives and attendees from Pemberton, Whistler, Squamish and the Nations of Skwxwú7mesh, N’Quatqua, Samahquam, Lilwat, Skatin and Xa’xtsa.

Shana Murray, Jody Kramer and Shannon Herdman have designed a comprehensive invite list and sent out the freshly released program. The response has been so enthusiastic that Shana has taken on the role of allocating a set number of tickets per organization, rather than issuing tickets on a first come basis. The Squamish Lilwat Cultural Centre’s Istken Hall can hold a maximum of 190 people for the keynote presentations. We expect to fill the room to capacity with attendees, volunteers, staff, presenters and their guests.

The program itself has met the goals set out by the Sexual Assault Response Committee. There are a great variety of workshops and presentations, from covering some basic legal overviews to delving into the complexities of different approaches to healing. We have a wide range of presenters, representing organizations and communities throughout our diverse corridor.

Important relationship building work has been done, including visits with key Indigenous partners, representing Southern Stl’atl’imx, Lil’wat and Squamish Nations. This is resulting in culturally competent workshops at Crosshatch.

In the coming weeks we will be pulling together a detailed program for all registrants, presenters and attendees. The Forum is expected to open up more dialogue between organizations in the corridor, to foster inter-organizational understanding, and to improve our resources as individuals and communities.
