Welcome to the February edition of the Contours Holidays newsletter. This year is already off to a strong start with the well-received arrival of our new trails and stile-free walks, but we still have plenty more exciting news to announce below!

In this month’s issue, Database Supervisor Gosia shares her experience of walking the Camel Trail – one of our new trails for 2020 – while regular contributor Beth Pipe showcases the delights of the little-known Turner Trail in Cumbria. We also have some exciting news for our runners and cyclists, a new video to share and a brief insight into our eco-friendly efforts going forward. We hope you enjoy; thanks for reading!

The Lincolnshire Coast Path was officially opened in 2019 as part of the England Coast Path National Trail. This refreshing seaside route showcases a wealth of history, diverse wildlife and countless attractions to take in, not to mention plenty of excellent sandy beaches.

Contours’ Marketing Coordinator Melody and Office Dog Effie recently explored the Lincolnshire Coast Path to get a first-hand feel for this family-friendly trail.

Here at Contours, we are passionate about the environment and committed to being environmentally conscious. We recently established a dedicated Eco Team within the office, who are responsible for ensuring that our business methods and our holidays are as environmentally friendly as possible.

The team will meet regularly and share our news throughout the year. We will also continue to promote best practices through our volunteering days, where we go out to litter pick and complete other conservation work as needed.

We have representatives from each Contours department making up the team and the list of new projects and initiatives is endless! Keep an eye on our social media to see what we get up to throughout the year.

These days, the first thing we do when we spot a magnificent view is take a photo of it. Maybe we share it on social media, or simply keep it to show family and friends when we get home. It only takes a few seconds to whip your phone out and capture the view — unless there’s a red squirrel sat right in front of you, in which case you will fumble with your phone and be unable to unlock your screen before said squirrel scampers away, leaving you with just memories and a complete inability to convince anyone that it was “sat right in front of me, honest!”

Back in the day, before the invention of cameras, it was rather more tricky to capture the view, and we had to rely on the great artists to recreate the scene. Thankfully, many of them did. It’s fascinating looking back on these images, as some of them reproduce the landscape quite faithfully, whereas others had a tendency to exaggerate — rather like an early version of photoshopping.

Announcing our Grand Prize Draw Winner

hiker

At the beginning of the year, we ran a Grand Prize Draw where everyone who booked a Contours Holiday during January had the chance to win a Raidlight rucksack filled with various items of clothing and kit. We are delighted to announce that the lucky winner was Mr Snelle Sijm from the Netherlands - congratulations! Your new backpack and a bumper assortment of goodies is on its way, and we hope you have a fantastic holiday!

Last Month's Competition:
Guess Where?

Last month's competition proved tricky to identify, with the majority of entries suggesting Arten Gill Viaduct, while the correct answer is actually only 1.2 miles away! Congratulations to Ken L. for correctly identifying Dent Head Viaduct, built between 1869 and 1875 for the Midland Railway Company.
