Monday, January 27 - Left Bank Books presents author Luke Geddes, who will sign and discuss his debut novel, Heart of Junk (Simon & Schuster, January 2020), on Monday, January 27, 7:00 p.m. at Left Bank Books (399 N. Euclid). This event is free and open to the public.
Tuesday, January 28 - Left Bank Books - 7-9p - Anissa Gray - The Care and Feeding of Ravenously Hungry Girls - Left Bank Books presents senior editor at CNN Worlwide, Anissa Gray, who will sign and discuss the paperback release of her debut her novel The Care and Feeding of Ravenously Hungry Girls.
Tuesday, January 28 - World Chess Hall of FameCurator-Led Tour: Fashion, Chess, and Space - 11a-12p - Have you ever wondered what chess has to do with fashion, beauty, and outer space? Join us for a free, in-depth look at our current exhibitions, "Michael Drummond: Being Played," "A Beautiful Game," and "Ground Control: A Journey Through Chess and Space." Curators Shannon Bailey and Emily Allred will lead the tour and be available to answer questions. Enjoy a complimentary boxed lunch with our staff or take it back to the office, following the tour.
Wednesday, January 29 - Bowood Farms - Orchid Care - Take the mystery out of growing beautiful orchids. In this class, David will cover basic orchid care including proper watering, fertilizing, and pruning techniques for common orchid varieties. Friday, January 31 - Bowood Farms - Seed Starting Workshop - Starting your garden from seeds is not only an economical and sustainable choice, it’s also a fascinating and rewarding activity during the gray days of midwinter. We will discuss beginning basics from reading a seed packet, estimating your sowing timeline and transplant needs, to gathering the necessary equipment and supplies. Participants will learn germination techniques and apply them to start four different varieties of seed: Broccoli, Basil, Butterfly Milkweed and Moonflower. You will take home your four 6-packs of seed starts to continue growing at home and eventually out in the garden. Price: $20. Taught by Kathy Hoyer. Workshop is limited to 15 people.

Saturday, February 1 -  Saturday Story Time at New City School - Join us for stories, songs, crafts (and coffee!) at New City! During the school year, Heidi Kehle (one of our wonderful preschool teachers), shares her stories and musical magic through Story Time each month from 9:30 - 11:00 am in the New City School Library. Stories and activities are designed for children from infant/toddler through second grade. Saturday Story Time is free and snacks are provided. You can also sign up to receive updates about upcoming Story Time Saturdays!
Saturday, February 1 - Third Degree Glass FactoryTHE HEART EXPERIENCE – $100 -   |  9:30a – 4:00p You’ll work one on one with a glass pro to create two (2) hot sculpted glass hearts within 30 minutes. Design your hearts to fit your fancy! Great gifts for your loved ones. Unfortunately, we are not able to split the hearts between two students, one person per time slot 
Sunday, February 2 - The Trombones of the Saint Louis Symphony present a concert at Second Presbyterian Church on Sunday, February 2 at 4:00 p.m. The Trombones will present works they have commissioned from composers with strong St. Louis roots including Caleb Burhans (Alarm Will Sound) and Adam Maness (The 442s). They also will perform their own arrangements of works by Giovanni Gabrieli, Sergei Prokofiev, and others. The church is located at 4501 Westminster Place in the Central West End, St. Louis, 63108. Sunday, February 2 - Bowood Farms Advanced Crystals - One of Bowood’s most popular classes now has a sequel! Dive deeper into the mystical world of crystal healing taught by crystal expert, Drew Dinges. In this class, Drew will delve into a brief history of healing crystals and discuss topics such as sacred geometry, crystalline structures, chakra healing, crystals of the zodiac and intention bundles. Each attendee will make a custom intention bundle of palo santo, dried botanicals and a crystal of their choosing. The Introduction to Crystals class is not required but strongly encouraged. Tuesdays, February 4, 11, 18, 25  | Third Degree Glass Factory -  6:00p – 9:00p - PATH TO INDEPENDENCE: 4-WEEK TUESDAY NIGHTS – $350 - Learn to make your own glass art! Our comprehensive Path to Independence coursework will give you all the knowledge you need to start making your own artwork as an independent artist. We offer small class sizes and provide all the tools necessary to finish your work to perfection. Complete four months (48 class hours) of these courses, and we will certify you to work independently in your preferred studio! You could even start selling your work in our gallery! Wednesday, February 5 - Gamlin Whiskey House - Women & Whiskey - On the first Wednesday of every month, raise a glass with us and your fellow women who whiskey! February's dinner will be hosted by Becky Harris, chief distiller at the Virginia-based Catoctin Creek Distillery. Tickets are $65 per person and include dinner, drinks, whiskey pairings, gratuity and, of course, an awesome night out!
Wednesday, February 12 - World Chess Hall of Fame - 6:30-8p - Join us for an artist talk with WGM Jennifer Shahade! Learn more about her and Daniel Meirom’s collaborative piece "Not Particularly Beautiful," featured in the exhibition "A Beautiful Game," their inspirations for the work, and Jen’s commitment to anti-bullying. Following the discussion, attendees are welcome to participate in an interactive activity that explores the impacting effects of one’s words on others.

Wednesday, February 19 - World Chess Hall of Fame - Crafts & Cocktails: Soft Sculptures with Alexa Clavijo 6:30 - 8p - Join Alexa Clavijo for an evening of crafting abstract soft sculptures! Inspired by the exhibition Michael Drummond: Being Played, participants will find innovative ways to use fabric to make one of a kind works of art. Clavijo will cover the basics of cutting and sewing reclaimed textiles to create sculptural pieces.
Saturday, February 22 - Bowood Farms - Fleur De Lis Watercoloring - Learn how to create a loose and unique watercolor painting of a Fleur de Lis with the guidance of artist Amy Woods. Explore watercolors by focusing on mixing color and seeing how water and paint interact without the pressure of drawing. Amy will show you how to blend colors to expand your palette as well as brush techniques to create different textures. This class is open to all levels of experience. All materials will be provided, and you’ll go home with your own palette and paintbrush. Price: $60. Taught by: Amy Woods. Workshop is limited to 12 people. Cathedral Concerts announces their 2019 - 2020 season - Saint Louis Cathedral Concerts, an independent nonprofit that brings sacred and classical music to St. Louis from world-class musicians, releases its concert lineup for the 27th season. The 2019-2020 season kicks off Monday, July 29th at 8:00pm, and continues through Friday, April 21st, 2020. The series of live concerts will showcase notable musicians in one of the world’s most striking cathedrals, the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis located at 4431 Lindell Blvd.
