VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT

                  Kay Patterson

Sometimes it's easy to forget that many of the people who "work" at a nonprofit are actually volunteers. There are hundreds of folks in Northeast Mississippi so dedicated to the missions of their agencies that they put in countless hours on a regular basis with no pay.

Once such selfless soul is Kay Patterson, volunteer coordinator of F.A.I.T.H. Food Pantry in Nettleton. Kay was one of the first representatives to create an agency account on Volunteer Northeast Mississippi's online hub, and she has been tremendously active ever since..

Kay manages not only the volunteers required for their massive food distribution, but also the ones needed for food pick-up and delivery, emergency food box preparation, and warehouse clean-up. (See more about volunteer opportunities at F.A.I.T.H. below.)

In addition, she keeps detailed records of the volunteers and is always on time sending volunteer activity reports to Volunteer NEMS every month. She does not take her responsibilities lightly, evident from the fact that she attended a volunteer recruitment and management workshop (photo above) and does not hesitate to ask questions to ensure that she is following all procedures correctly.

Her diligence pays off. In order to provide food for the 800+ families in need, F.A.I.T.H. utilizes more than 200 volunteers, accounting for almost 1,000 hours of volunteer service, every month. It's quite an undertaking, but the process runs smoothly, the clients are well-served, and the volunteers enjoy working for such a worthy cause.

Thank you, Kay, for the outstanding job you do to help F.A.I.T.H. Food Pantry fulfill its mission of meeting the needs of food-insecure residents in Itawamba, Lee, and Monroe Counties.
