LGBTQIA+ Mental Health
Happy New Year to Aliento students, faculty, staff, y amigx's!
Each month we provide updates, links, community events and resources while highlighting a mental health cause. This issue focuses on LGBTQ+ mental health.
Chisme Academico: LGBTQ+ Mental Health
Latinx LGBT Mental Health. Latinx sexual and gender minorities are at high risk for clinical depression based on exposure to racial and sexual discrimination in least diverse areas (Sun et al 2018). Sexual minority men of color have different experiences of stigma than do White sexual minority men (McConnell et al 2018). Rejection based on sexuality and gender globalizes feelings of low self-worth in Latino LGBT youth. (Snapp et al 2015). Community resilience can help to buffer the adverse effects that trans Latina immigrants experience during the migration process. (Cerezo et al 2014).
