Call for Abstracts
Abstract submissions will be open in early February and should be submitted by March 2, 2020. Please refer to the conference website for further details. Please note that while all abstracts will be considered, not all can be accommodated within our program. The program committee will advise all accepted abstract contributors in early April 2020.
Sessions for the 2020 conference are as follows:
- Channeling Innovation: From Ideas to Implementation
- Design Parameters – Balancing Approaches and Setting
- Drainage and Other Challenges in Rural Regions
- The Landscape Perspective on the Riparian Zone – Meaning Outside the Channel
- Learning from Failure – Lessons Drawn from Projects Gone Wrong
- Legislation Changes – Navigating the New Federal and Provincial Legislative Updates
- Port Lands Flood Protection and Enabling Infrastructure Project: Waterfront Toronto/City of Toronto/TRCA
During your abstract submission please indicate your preferred session, the Program Committee will do its best to honour selections, but we reserve the right to place a presentation in any session.
Keynote Announcement
We are pleased to announce the following keynote speakers:
Dr. Peter Wilcock, Dept. of Watershed Sciences, Utah State University
Prof. Wilcock will speak about the principles and strategies for effective stream restoration.
Silvia D'Amelio, CEO, Trout Unlimited Canada, Calgary, Alberta
Silvia will speak on her experiences and perspectives from the NGO side of channels and its implications for all involved.

Training Opportunities
The Natural Channels Initiative remains committed to providing opportunities for professionals to expand their learning and knowledge with respect to Natural Channel Systems. To this end, there are three workshops available on July 6, 2020:
- Class 2 Backpack Electrofishing Certification Course (Cost: $260+HST)
- Fish Passage, Fish Behavior, and Fish Passage Design (Cost: $150+HST)
- Sediment Transport in Stream Channel Assessment and Design (Cost: $150+HST)
