Q2 Honor Roll! Check them out!

January is School Board Recognition Month, a great opportunity to say thank you to the Basehor-Linwood USD 458 Board of Education members who are committed to the success of every student in our communities of Basehor and Linwood.

Our board of education includes: Dayna Miller (President), Shelley Stevens (Vice-President), Tim Hill, Spencer Fritz, Tracey Hannah, Gary Johnson and Aaron Eusterwiemann.

These community leaders volunteer many hours attending meetings, reading reports and discussing plans and programs to support educational achievement.

Basehor-Linwood USD 458 encourages the entire community to thank a school board member, not only this month but throughout the entire year for their service and dedication to our students!

Basehor-Linwood students around the district celebrated Kansas Day with different projects like making wheat bread, churning their own butter, making Kansas-shaped graham cracker snacks, and writing Kansas day poems!

Melissa Smith - para educator at BES - was recognized last Thursday as the BLEF STAR Award winner for Basehor Elementary School! Below are some things her peers stated in their nominations:

Melissa has such a wonderful natural ability to adapt lessons and provide strategies for all students to be successful. When given some of our most struggling students, she keeps a calm, patient attitude all day, everyday.

She is a wonderful para educator who has worked with some of our most challenging students.

Melissa is the best example of what every parent and staff member dreams their child or student could have in a teacher. She is the calm when a student is going through a tough time and the joy when they are learning. She not only teaches her students but she has taught me how to be a better para. She is always willing to jump in and help anyone.

Congratulations, Melissa!
