Pictures

They say a picture is worth a thousand words.  This quote, the internet tells, was invented in 1921 by an American named Frank Barnard.  The slogan came out as an advertisement on the sides of streetcars.  His ad on the side of these streetcars read, “One look is worth a thousand words.”
As true as this is of pictures and streetcars, it is more true of the lives we live each day.  Every day you are painting a picture of the world by the way you live.  What will your picture say today about you, the way you look at the world around you, and the God you worship.  It gives credibility to another old age saying, “Actions speak louder than words.”  Paint good pictures.

News and Events

What to expect
during our Worship time on
Sunday January 26

This Sunday we will learn about seeing the work of the Holy Spirit in ourselves and others.

We hope to see you in the Family Life Center for a light breakfast during the Connection time from 10-10:30 am.  Do not feel rushed to get to worship "on time."  If you are having a great conversation with your church family, take the time and finish it, then come to worship together.

The worship guide for this week is Beth Hall, and she will guide us through the service.

Praise and Prayer

Want to be prepared to sing the music for Sunday?  Click Here

We will praise God through different types of music, and pray as a body for his presence to fill us as we worship. During the music, please sit or stand as you feel led.  Sometimes you may feel the need to sit and soak in the presence of God.  Other-times you may want to stand, raise your hands and lose yourself in worship. There is no right or wrong way.  We ask that you only do what you feel, and not worry what you think you should do. This section is less formal, so feel free to find the way you worship most freely.

Prayer is vital to the life of the church.  We ask that you bring your prayer cards to the altar at anytime during the opening section. While at the altar, members of our prayer team are available to pray with you, or you may take time to pray at the altar on your own.  Member of the prayer team will send the concerns that are shareable to you by email, so that you may pray over the concerns of your church family during the week.  If a concern is an urgent need, they will let our worship guides know so that we may pray over them immediately during the service.

Offering will be taken up during the third song this Sunday.

4Gs

4Gs (GRAY GIRLS GROW GODLY) @ Gray UMC – JANUARY 14. 2020

The 4Gs dinner gathering was held Tuesday, JAN 14th @ 6:30PM in the Gathering Room (behind the kitchen) @ Gray UMC.

Join 4Gs on the second Tuesday of each month.  Mark your calendar now for the next gathering on February 11, 2020 @ 6:30PM @ GUMC.  Our guest speaker will be a representative from ‘The Isaiah 117 House’ which is a facility that provides physical and emotional support in a safe and loving home for children awaiting foster care placement.  The meal will be ‘pot luck.’  Invite a friend to come, too.   REMINDER: – if Washington County (TN) schools are closed, or close early, we WILL NOT meet.  We would love for you to join us in February!

The first month of 2020 was devoted to making plans for the coming year.  Our devotion for the night was led by Debbie Russell.  Becky Olterman was our leader and talked about the 2020 vision for Gray UMC’s 4Gs group.  She explained that nothing would change about 4Gs this year and that her vision was for 4Gs to be about fellowship, getting to know each other better and serving our church and the community.  She reminded us of scripture from Ephesians 2:10 - “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”  Each table was asked jointly to “brainstorm” about ideas of what they wanted for 2020 programs.  These were collected and will be reviewed by the 4Gs Council.

Jubilation 2020
