APSIA Goes to Paris: Annual Deans / Directors Meeting

On January 9-10, 2020,
57 representatives from 47 schools in 15 countries gathered in Paris for the annual APSIA Deans/Directors meeting, hosted by the
 Paris School of International Affairs.


The interactive meeting included discussions of innovation, bridging the hard and social sciences, and workforce skills for the future, as well as a conversation with French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe.

Alumna Highlight: Sohaela Amiri

Sohaela Amiri is a graduate of the Master of Public Diplomacy program at the University of Southern California. Amiri currently works as an assistant policy researcher at RAND Corporation, focusing on non-state and sub-national actors such as cities, diaspora groups, and immigrants, as well as soft power metrics. 

Much of her work at RAND entails impact measurement, system analysis, program evaluation and design, as they relate to foreign policy, international development, global health, disaster response, and media literacy. Amiri has conducted research in public diplomacy, international affairs, and strategic communication, with a focus on evaluation at the USC Center on Public Diplomacy (CPD), where she currently serves as research associate.

The Master of Public Diplomacy combines the resources of the USC Annenberg School for Communication and USC College’s School of International Relations.

Students may emphasize public diplomacy training most appropriate for a career in public service, the corporate world, or in a non-governmental organization working in the ever-expanding global civil society.

Upon successful completion of the Public Diplomacy program, graduates are able to: approach issues related to foreign public engagement across a variety of times and geographical locations; work effectively as a practitioner in the field of foreign public engagement; and communicate persuasively and succinctly in spoken and written forms and in the genres of communication currently in use in professionally public diplomacy practice.
