EVENTS
Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open and Aberdeen Standard Investments Ladies Open Business Networking Meeting  at Renaissance Club

East Lothian Council is delighted to invite Scotland’s Food & Drink County members to a networking event at which you will have the opportunity to meet with the organisers of the Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open and the Aberdeen Standard Investments Ladies Scottish Open as the tournaments return to East Lothian at The Renaissance Club from 9th-12th July and 13th-16th August 2020 respectively.  This networking event will be held at The Renaissance Club on Wednesday 5th February 2020 from 2pm and will take the form of 1-1 and group sessions between the organisers and local businesses.

Representatives of The European Tour, organiser of the Scottish Open, and IMG, organiser of the Ladies Scottish Open will be present along with event catering organisers who will be on hand to speak to local food producers and food vendors who can supply to and sell produce during the events.  Unfortunately, both event organisers and event catering contractors are not able to engage with local alcohol businesses due to existing arrangements in place.

Within the championship village at both events, we are proposing to have a marquee on site presence to offer tastings and sales and we are encouraging members of Scotland’s Food & Drink County to participate.  Unfortunately again, we are unable to engage with local alcohol businesses due to existing arrangements in place.  Jackie Gardiner & Susan Smith will be available to have a chat further on this for any business wishing to be involved.

If you wish to attend, please e-mail economicdevelopment@eastlothian.gov.uk giving brief details of your business offer, your experience of previous events and who you would like to speak to by Monday 27th January.

We look forward to hearing from you.

New service to tackle trade barriers

The UK and Scottish government have launched a new service to help tackle the barriers that businesses face when exporting. A trade barrier is something that slows down, limits or prevents a UK business exporting to or investing in an overseas market. After the UK’s exit from the EU we can expect new, more and more valuable barriers for Scotland’s exporters.

Businesses, representative organisations and industry bodies can use the new tool to log any barriers to exporting goods or servicing they are experiencing. Advisors from the Department for International Trade (DIT) will then aim to email you within 5 working days to let you know if they can help.

To report a trade barrier visit https://www.great.gov.uk/report-trade-barrier/

Before filling in the form:

  • Check that your problem is a trade barrier.
  • be ready to include as much information as you can about the barrier and its impacts
  • remember to indicate that your business is located in Scotland.
