Patient interview on perspectives of care

One of our NHS colleagues is currently undertaking a Healthcare Leadership post graduate diploma. As part of her studies she would like to interview a patient about their “patient journey”.

It would be very informal and would consist of about 5 questions asking about their personal experience of care, with a particular focus on transfers of care between hospitals to GPs or their opinions on multidisciplinary teams and upskilling.

It is an activity to try and understand patient experience and their perspectives of health care.

HealthWatch have launched their report of the responses of people in Sheffield to the NHS Long Term Plan. The purpose of this report is to highlight people’s experiences and to make you aware of what is important to people in Sheffield.

Some of the key themes of what they heard were:
· The importance of support in your community; this included both NHS services being available and accessible near to where you live, and  voluntary sector groups or organisations as a means of support.
· Person-centred care; being involved in decisions and having advice tailored to you. This included acknowledgement of your care as whole, rather than focusing on different conditions or illnesses separately, as well as considering what might aid your access to services, e.g. translation.
· The importance of prevention of illnesses, including early treatment of illnesses to stop people getting to crisis point, and education to help you stay well.
· Concerns around the expansion of digital technologies; it was felt that people who didn’t have access to the internet or weren’t confident with technology were at risk of exclusion.

NHS Sheffield CCG works with healthcare professionals, patients and the public to deliver high quality, efficient and cost effective healthcare services for people across the whole of Sheffield. You can learn more about our engagement work here.

'Involve me' has been set up as a way of involving people who care about their local NHS and who would like to be kept up to date, or get involved and have their say, on commissioning decisions for the benefit of Sheffield people.

Thank you once again for getting involved with healthcare services locally and don’t forget to pass the message on so we can reach as many people as possible!
