INVITATION

to the BCRC-QUESCREN-ICED conference on the English Speaking Black and African Population of Quebec.
Dear colleague,

On behalf of the Black Community Resource Centre (BCRC), Quebec English-speaking Communities Research Network (QUESCREN) and the Institute for Community Entrepreneurship and Development (ICED), I am pleased to invite you to join us at our upcoming conference entitled “From Vulnerability to Vitality”: Building Sustainable English-Speaking Black and African Visible Minority Communities in Quebec. It takes place on March 23, 2020 at the Loyola Conference Centre of Concordia University.

The aim of this conference is to bring together experts, scholars, and stakeholders to address problems of building sustainable visible minority communities with special reference to the experience of the English-speaking Black and African population of Quebec as a subset of the Black Canadian experience. In particular, we would like to address the contextual issues of capitalism, migration, economic and socio-spatial fragmentation with particular reference to the Black and African population, and other visible minorities in Quebec and Canada. The event will feature keynote panels, workshops, presentations of research findings and group discussions. We are hoping to bring together approximately 60 participants that include representatives from the government, education and community sectors, ranging from academics to practitioners and policy-makers from Quebec, Canada and abroad. The networking opportunities and presentation of research facilitated by this event will enable us to realize our main goal: sharing experience and tested strategies for encouraging the development of healthy and sustainable vitality for Black and African Visible Minority communities, linguistic or otherwise. It would be a pleasure if you accept our invitation and would be able to attend our conference.

Please RSVP by February 3, 2020. As indicated, space is limited and so after this date, we will offer the opportunity to attend to others in our communities.
Register for this Event
Sincerely,

Clarence Bayne (PhD)
Professor Emeritus, John Molson School of Business, Concordia University

President of BCRC
Chair of the Secretariat of BCF
