Good People of the Poem and Pen~

I write to invite you to my one day Poetry and the Body class happening at GrubStreet on Friday, March 6. I know March seems somewhat far away in time and space, but seats are limited and spaces are filling.

Poetry and the Body
One Day Workshop at GrubStreet

March 6, 10am-5pm

How do our life experiences—sacred, mundane, and profane—shape our identity, and live within our bodies?

Our bodies carry our life experiences, and poetry can be a vehicle for exploring our relationship to them.

In this class, we will experiment with craft tools like voice, imagery, point of view, language and form to support the self-exploration that gives rise to our unique, embodied voice.

We will explore how our life experiences related to things like race, gender identity, war, trauma, loss, hunger, addiction and healing can be explored through poetry, and held by our poems

Through our personal poetry we can deepen our understanding and appreciation of the diversity and complexity within us, and in those around us. From this place, our poems become part of a dialogue within a larger collective.

By the end of this workshop, you will have generated a few new poem beginnings, and continued to cultivate ways of approaching embodied memory in your writing. You will have deepened your craft knowledgeengaged in workshopping your work, and will  inhabit yourself and your writing life in renewed ways.
