2020 Board

It’s the start of a new year, which means that it is time once again to have FOS board meetings and FOS general meetings! The first Board meeting was on January 8^th, 2020.

Board member Jerry Dagenais unfortunately was sick and unable to attend.

The Board is no longer able to use Lifetime Fitness for the monthly meeting, so they all met at Sally’s house in Frankfort. Light snacks & refreshments were available (btw, great brownies, Fern!)
There was a great deal of discussion about many things, but a decision needed to be made about where to hold the upcoming General meetings.
After hearing varying points of view, it was decided to have the meetings at Frankfort Public Library.
If the Library wasn’t available on Thursday, our usual day, then we will try for Wednesday.
The Library did not have availability on Thursday for the next three months, but they did for Wednesday.
The dates & times for our General Meetings at Frankfort Public Library for the next 3 months are:
Wednesday, January 22^nd from 7pm – 8:45pm
Wednesday February 26th 7-8:45
Wednesday March 25th 7-8:45.

Final Hike of 2019

On Saturday, Dec. 28, several FOS hikers and one guest ventured out for our final hike of 2019 at the Indiana Dunes State Park. We hiked Trail 10 out to the beach and returned by walking the beach until we intersected Trail 9 and then back to 10. Total distance about 5.5 miles that day. Although the forecast was questionable at first, it turned out to be a great day. Unfortunately, the hike at Bailly Homestead was cancelled due to miserable weather and flooding.

We’ll be returning to the Dunes in February for the 3 Dune Challenge which is always a lot of fun – and a bit of a challenge! Hopefully many of our hikers will be up for it.

2020 Socials

February 6th, Thursday, TRAILS EDGE PRE VALENTINE SOCIAL EVENT, 20 Kansas Street, Frankfort-7:30 pm start, free appitizers 8pm, food can be ordered til 9 and bartender in room til close at 10pm. Trails Edge is one of our sponsers and also hosted in our Easter Ride last year. This is our 4th year for this event. This is a very casual social to visit.

May 17th, Sunday, PANCAKE BREAKFAST AT FERNS, 21117 Main Street, Matteson. 10 am to 2pm-free pancakes, sausage, juice, coffee, egg bake plus eat free. Parking next door at Day Care. Bike or drive over, rain or shine-this has been in both weather conditions with same amount of participation.

July 19th, Sunday, ANNUAL ICE CREAM SOCIAL, from downtown Frankfort go east on trail and gazebo is by the playground.11 am to 2pm, free ice cream

Sept 20th, Sunday, ANNUAL PICNIC, Hickory Creek Presserves, LaPorte Road access. welcome earlier but food catered and served at 1pm-free to members guests welcome but pay.

October 25th, Sunday, END OF SEASON BIKE HIKE AND POTLUCK, Goodenow Grove, Bring a dish to share, family welcome as well as several other bike clubs and food served 1pm

FOS Spring Fling

Save the date: Sunday, May 31, 2020. This year we are trying something different than the traditional cold weather Easter Ride. We changed the date from April to May 31st and renamed the ride Spring Fling. This year's ride will begin and end at the Hickory Creek Brewing Company in New Lenox located at Laraway & Nelson. The pre ride is tentatively planned for Saturday May 23rd, the week prior to the Spring Fling ride. As always we will be looking for your help to make this the best ride ever.
