First phase in Tourism Australia-led domestic marketing launched to assist bushfire recovery

Tourism Australia has begun rollout of the first phase in a $20 million nationally coordinated domestic marketing initiative, part of the initial $76 million tourism recovery package announced by the Morrison Government recently to protect jobs, small businesses and local economies.

The new domestic campaign, Holiday Here This Year, encourages Australians to explore their own backyard throughout 2020 to assist with bushfire recovery, not just for directly affected communities but also to support the entire tourism sector.

Yesterday, the campaign launched with a media placement on the front and back pages on a number of daily newspapers, designed for high impact delivery of the message to a mass audience. It also began rolling out across Tourism Australia’s digital and social media channels, including with a Facebook event and a video featuring operators from every state and territory.

Tourism Australia is working with all State and Territory Tourism Organisations, as well as airlines and key distribution partners. While the campaign has an overarching concept, it will be localised for different regions and shared in a range of formats.

This is the first phase in a series of domestic initiatives executed throughout 2020 to support the tourism industry recover. We’ll share additional information in our monthly Stakeholder Update, and on our corporate social channels – Instagram and LinkedIn. We're also hosting Tourism Boost events in Tumut and Tumbarumba next month to share updates in person with directly affected stakeholders, see more details below.
