The quote of the day

“Criticism, like rain, should be gentle enough to nourish a man’s growth without destroying his roots.”
– Frank A. Clark

The latest post

Not exactly the latest one, but one I think it is important to come back to regularly. Why Feedback Fails, and what can we do about it. I am still amazed by the power of positive reinforcement, and also a bit angry at myself when I fall back at not doing it.

The next conference

I am excited about it, I will give the closing keynote for an AgileDay in Paris in February. I will tell you more next time!

A book worth reading

Every Tool's a Hammer: Life is What You Make It is the book I recommend this week. You will love that book if you love to solve problems and make things. I enjoyed reading it, or more accurately listening to it. First, because of the way of thinking, the way of analyzing what works or not in the author's way of working, and how he invested a lot to improve it. Very inspiring for anybody who wants to do anything and improve its way of working along the way.
Second, probably because the way of speaking of the author reminded me with a friend, Profesional coach in Portland, I guess I should talk to him more often. In fact, I did talk to him, we even recorded a podcast together!

An article worth reading

Giving Feedback to Someone Who Hasn’t Had It in Years, an interesting perspective on how to give feedback to people who need it, but don't know it.

The latest podcast

In this episode of Le Podcast, I had the great pleasure of having John Poelstra to discuss a very personal experience about providing feedback. How (not) to provide feedback!

I enjoyed watching

How to ask for help - and get a "yes" is a TED talk I enjoyed watching this time. You will learn the four simple rules for asking for help, and making the person who helps you happy about it.

Enjoy the rest of your week!

Alexis
