Dr. Claudia Thomas Presents Keynote Speech at Duke's Martin Luther King Jr. Banquet
The keynote speaker at the 27th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Banquet, held on Saturday, January 18, 2020, and hosted by the Duke University Chapter of the Student National Medical Association (SNMA), was orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Claudia L. Thomas.
Duke Orthopaedic Surgery sponsored two tables at the dinner and welcomed faculty and medical students to the event.
Dr. Anand Joshi has been chosen to present Moving Beyond Degenerative Disc Disease: A Systematic Review in the ISSLS (The International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine) program during SpineWeek 2020, in Melbourne, Australia, on April 27 – May 1, 2020.

Dr. Adams Selected to AAOS Committee
Dr. Samuel Adams was recently selected to serve a two-year term on the AAOS Committee on Devices, Biologics, and Technology. This is a new committee for the AAOS and will focus on defining “biologics” and “regenerative” therapies, assessing their safety and efficacy, systematically reviewing the existing evidence, and identifying areas where more research is needed related to discrete treatments and anatomic sites. Dr. Adam’s appointment will begin immediately.

Duke DPT Selects 2019 Student Excellence Scholarship Recipients
The Duke University Doctor of Physical Therapy Division has selected the 2019 Duke Doctor of Physical Therapy Student Excellence Scholarship recipients. The Duke DPT Student Excellence Scholarship was created to assist students that have financial need and have demonstrated academic, scholarly, leadership, advocacy, and service excellence during their time in the Duke DPT program.
Young Investigator Initiative Grant Mentoring Program Accepting Applications
This grant mentoring program and career development program is open to promising junior faculty, senior fellows or post-doctoral researchers nominated by their department or division chairs seeking to pursue a career in clinical or basic research. It is also open to senior fellows or residents that are doing research and have a faculty appointment in place or confirmed. Basic and clinical investigators, without or with training awards, are invited to apply. Investigators selected to take part in the program attend two workshops, 12-18 months apart, and work with faculty between workshops to develop their grant applications.
