A special new worship experience at Woodcliff United led by Rev. Eric and Sheri Bolitho. This unique worship series starts January 26th and runs on the last Sunday of the month from 5:30 - 6:30pm in Lower Hall.

The service will be intergenerational with childcare provided for children under 3. It is intended to be a service that will be spiritually filling for the young in body and those young at heart but is appropriate for those older in age and everyone in between. It is truly for everyone! The components of the service will be a shared meal, a reflection and a time for going deeper into the story through exploration as well as prayer and music.

The first in our session will focus on the Parable of the Good Shepherd told through Godly play. Godly Play is a method of storytelling and wondering that enables children and adults to find and hear God's voice. Godly Play is the original work of the US theologian, Jerome Berryman. Since its inception in the 1970s, it has been used worldwide in schools and churches and with children and adults alike in many contexts, including care homes, prisons, all age services, hospitals and theological colleges. With origins in Montessori education Godly Play is imaginative in a Spiritual way. Sheri is a certified Godly Play story teller and is excited to share this with Woodcliff in this special way.

Hope to see you Sunday in the lower hall at 5:30pm. Come Hungry!

Woodcliff United Church: Lunch and Learn
Sunday, February 23
Film: The Sacred Relationship explores how reconciling the relationship between Aboriginal people and the rest of Canada can lead to healthier water. Water is sacred in Indigenous culture- it is in ceremony and it gives life. Elders from around Alberta teach that water  must be respected because “what we do to water we do to ourselves”.
Please join the Outreach Committee for this lunch and learn as we continue on the Journey for Common Ground.

This week in Sunday School the children are hearing the Story of the Good Shepherd.  We will be exploring what Jesus means when he says "I am the good Shepherd" We will also participate in the baptism before we come downstairs to our worship time.
In response to the devastating wildfires in Australia, the youth have decided to direct donated funds to the Uniting Church of Australia - to assist with disaster support. If you wish to send your donation with theirs, you can donate directly through Woodcliff marked 'Australia Relief'. Thank you for your support.

While walking on the street one night in a small town in Canada, Scott Jones, a gay musician, is attacked and paralyzed from the waist down; what follows is a brave and fragile journey of healing and the transformation of a young man’s life. From the first raw moments in the hospital to a disquieting trip back to the place he was attacked, Scott is constantly faced with the choice of losing himself in waves of grief or embracing love over fear. Directed by Laura Marie Wayne, and filmed over three years by Scott’s close friend, Love, Scott is an intimate and visually evocative window into queer experience, set against a stunning score by Sigur Rós.
Laura Marie Wayne grew up in Wildwood and attended Wildwood Elementary School in the ‘80’s. Who knew that she would become the director of a documentary film that had its North American premiere at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival in April 2018 and was shown at the Calgary Film Festival that same year!
Laura had been studying documentary film production in Cuba in 2013 when she learned that her friend Scott had been seriously assaulted in Nova Scotia. Laura flew immediately to be at his hospital bedside and while she was with him, Scott suggested that she do a documentary about what had happened to him. It took Laura three years.
Now a National Film Board documentary, Woodcliff United Church is thrilled to have the opportunity to show this movie.

SPECIAL DAYS AT CAMP WHITNEY!

Mission & Service provides grants to United Church camps like Camp Whitney in Alberta, where children between the ages of 6 and 15 can explore their relationship with God, nature, and each other.

So what should kids expect at Camp Whitney? According to the staff, there are no typical days. Each day is special and packed with fun for each camper. One activity is God Talk, where campers get to know more about the Bible in exciting and enjoyable ways. Campers can also take part in sports such as archery, swimming, or canoeing or get involved with arts and crafts or drama. There’s time to relax on a beautiful beach, have fun playing outdoor games, enjoy nature, and gather around the evening campfire to sing and share stories. Most of all, Camp Whitney is a place for Christian fellowship and to make friends.

We are thankful that Mission & Service is part of camping ministry. Camps are important places for children and youth to explore their faith and develop leadership skills.

If Mission & Service giving is already a regular part of your life, thank you so much! If you have not given, please join me in making Mission & Service giving a regular part of your life of faith. Loving our neighbour is at the heart of our Mission & Service.
