CCG supports expansion of LifeLink social prescribing project across west Suffolk
The LifeLink social prescribing initiative is set to be expanded across west Suffolk.

The project was initially piloted in Haverhill in 2017 following a bid by St Edmundsbury Borough Council (now West Suffolk Council) for Government funds. In Haverhill the scheme has already supported more than 350 people, connecting them to local community groups and social activities – and leading to a reduction in their GP visits as a result.

 WSCCG's Lois Wreathall says: “The success of this project shows how partnership working between local organisations can result in meaningful outcomes that make a positive difference.”

Introducing My Care Record - improving patient care
The CCG's Julie Irving has recently been extolling the benefits of My Care Record - which will introduce more efficient liaison between health care providers and aims to reduce waiting times and cut down on duplication.

Julie was recently interviewed on BBC Radio Suffolk and, additionally, the East Anglian Daily Times featured the launch with Julie and Suffolk GP Dr John Oates.

Join us next week in Haverhill

The CCG has teamed up with the county's health living provider, One Life Suffolk, to host an information event and discussion to help you avoid Type 2 diabetes.
 
  • Type 2 diabetes is a common condition that causes the level of sugar (glucose) in the blood to become too high.
  • It can cause symptoms like excessive thirst, needing to pee a lot and tiredness. It can also increase your risk of getting serious problems with your eyes, heart and nerves.
  • It's a lifelong condition that can affect your everyday life. You may need to change your diet, take medicines and have regular check-ups.
  • It's caused by problems with a chemical in the body (hormone) called insulin. It's often linked to being overweight or inactive, or having a family history of type 2 diabetes.
No need to book, simply turn up. See poster below.
 
Ipswich Town Football Club teams up with Active Schools

Ipswich Town Football Club has joined the drive to get more youngsters active, becoming the £80,000 Active Schools project’s first ambassador.

Launched in July last year by Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils, in partnership with our CCG and our partners at NHS Ipswich and East Suffolk CCG and supported by Active Suffolk; the three-year Active Schools project aims to increase the number of people taking part in sport and physical activity.

Richard Watson, the CCGs' Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Strategy and Transformation said: “Developing good lifestyle habits at an early age is so important and gives young people the very best chance of enjoying a healthy and happy adulthood, reducing associated physical and mental health risks.

“We welcome the opportunity to fund this project and support our partners.”

Clements Surgery in Haverhill is no.1 in the UK
 

New data shows that Clements Surgery is receiving and processing more online appointments than any other surgery in the UK.

The Clements Surgery, which has 18,000 registered patients, introduced the eConsult online appointment service last December.

Dr David Brandon said: “By implementing an alternative to the traditional telephone booking service, the Surgery has placed itself at the forefront of innovation in primary care. In the first two months of the system being live, Clements Surgery has been rated the first nationwide for the number of eConsults being processed, with over 650 being submitted every week. All patients that have needed to be seen following the triage process have been, and all within the timescale dictated by their clinical need."

NSFT Putting People First Awards

Service users, carers and the public are being invited to nominate mental health staff who "put people first".

Nominees could include NSFT teams and staff working in the children’s or adults learning disabilities services, child and adolescent mental health services, wellbeing and perinatal and infant mental health or older people’s services, including those for dementia, secure and wellbeing services.

The public can nominate any current member of NSFT staff, volunteer, team or service for an award if they have provided care or support to them or someone they know in the last 12 months.

My Health, Our Future

The challenges and complexities of children and young people's mental health have recently been revealed in a new report by Healthwatch Suffolk.

The local health and care watchdog says young people are facing increasing challenges to their mental health and that their subjective wellbeing is lower than the national average.

West Suffolk Hospital - it's great to read that the hospital is rated top in the Midlands and East by staff who said they would be happy with its care if a friend or relative needed treatment.

The NHS in Suffolk and Public Health England are extremely well prepared for outbreaks of new infectious diseases. The NHS has put in place measures to ensure the safety of all patients and NHS staff while also ensuring services are available to the public as normal.

Meeting in public of the CCG's Governing Body

The next meeting will take place on Wednesday March 25 at The Conference Room, West Suffolk House, Bury St Edmunds IP33 3SP.

The meeting begins at 9.15 a.m. and you have the opportunity to speak with Governing Body members from 9.00 a.m.
