British Council Schools Online has prepared a creative education pack with information and activities to help teachers and their students learn more about the Spring Festival and explore Chinese language and culture.

NEWS AND OPPORTUNITIES FROM THE FIELD

 
2020 Zhi-Xing China Fellowship—The U.S.–China University Student Leaders Academy will be held in China from July 21–August 7 this summer. Up to 25 American student leaders will be selected from applicants currently enrolled in American universities for undergraduate study. Participation in the Academy will be fully funded by the program. The online application is now open through March 16, 2020.
 
Summer 2020 in Macau—Co-sponsored by the Center for International Foreign Language Teacher Education (CILFTE) at Teachers College, Columbia University and Macau University of Science and Technology, the Summer 2020 TCSOL/TESOL Summer Dual Certificate Program in Macau is currently accepting applications.
 
New York International Conference on Teaching Chinese—Jointly with Pace University and Nanjing University, the Chinese Language Teachers Association of Greater New York will hold the 18th annual conference on Saturday, May 2, 2020 at Pace University in New York City. This year's theme is "Chinese as a World Language: New Approaches, New Technologies, New Opportunities and New Challenges." Deadline for submitting a proposal to present: February 15, 2020
 
12th International Symposium on Hanzi Shufa Education—Co-organized by American Society of Shufa Calligraphy Education and Lanting School of Calligraphy of Shaoxing University, this conference explores the theories and practices of Chinese calligraphy education from interdisciplinary and crosscultural perspectives against the background of globalization, digitization and internetworking. Conference papers or Chinese calligraphy works are to be submitted, along with conference registration, to assce.2020@gmail.com. Conference dates: June 18–20, 2020
 
Teaching for Global Competence—Asia Society is pleased to announce a new certificate program for educators in partnership with EdPlus at Arizona State University. Participants will engage in online courses comprised of short videos, interactive learning objects, and competency-based assessments, as well as readings and reflective activities. The certificates are designed for any K–12 education professional interested in learning how to incorporate best-practices in global competence education.
