Amethyst Place names Starla Brennan
as Executive Director

As Amethyst Place looks to the future and celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, the board of directors is pleased to announce Starla Wulf Brennan as our new executive director effective Feb. 5, 2020.
“We are excited to start this next chapter in Amethyst Place’s history with the leadership of Ms. Brennan,” said Elizabeth Glynn, board chair. “Her background of 12 years in non-profit work with women and families combined with her financial expertise and strategic perspective make her the right fit as we envision the next 20 years of supporting women in recovery in our community.”

Ms. Brennan most recently served as the residence director at Journey to New Life, a Kansas City, Mo. based non-profit focused on helping the formerly incarcerated re-enter the community, and established Impact MO, a multi-sector coalition which coordinates supportive services for vulnerable families.

“I have long admired the approach Amethyst Place uses to holistically support and embrace each family,” said Starla. “Families are given the space, time, and resources needed to heal and flourish. I am honored to join such an exceptional organization.”

Ms. Brennan has a Master of Public Administration from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and an undergraduate degree in accounting from Kansas State University. She is also a Certified Public Accountant.

The board conducted a thorough search process this past fall with the assistance of the Moran Company.

The board is deeply grateful for the support of Irma Salazar Robinson as the acting executive director during the search process.

Please contact Elizabeth Glynn, board chair, at elizabeth@travois.com with any questions.
In Memory of Lonnie Vanderslice
The Amethyst Place community honors the life of Lonnie Vanderslice, who passed away in early January. For the past several years, Lonnie channeled her own recovery journey to support Amethyst Place moms on theirs. She was a role model, taught life skills, led recovery meetings, and helped moms set and achieve their own recovery goals. Lonnie is greatly missed by the Amethyst Place community and her legacy will be carried forward by the countless women she inspired.
