"Under the Sea" Middle School Dance on Feb. 7

Middle School will have its winter dance after school on Friday, Feb. 7 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the gym.

The theme is "Under the Sea." Tickets cost $5 (includes entry and two slices of pizza) and will be sold before school the week of the dance in the locker hallway. Cash and checks made out to "Hilburn Academy PTA" will be accepted.

Staff Appreciation Popcorn Bar

Staff Appreciation is providing a Popcorn Bar for teachers on the Tuesday, Feb. 18 Teacher Workday. We request parent donations of assorted popcorn (already popped and in sealed bags), paper containers to serve popcorn in and napkins to provide a popcorn bar for the staff. Kindly make sure the donations are marked for "Staff Appreciation." A volunteer will be present in the car pool lanes to receive the donations.

Donate to the WAKE Up and Read Book Drive

Donate new and gently used books

Hilburn Academy is a collection location for the WAKE Up and Read Book Drive through Feb. 15. There are big boxes in the lobby and by grade level hallways for donations of new and gently used books. Mr. Cucurullo's Hawks Lead students will collect the books daily. Questions? Email Mr. C.

WAKE Up and Read is collecting new and gently-used books for
children ages birth to 12 at several collection sites across the county, including schools. The goal is to collect 130,000 books – enough to share at 13 schools, as well as community centers and child care facilities across Wake County.

Spring Fun Run needs your help

The PTA is forming a committee to help with the planning of the Spring Fun Run to be held on Friday, April 3. This year, we will bring the Fun Run in-house, keeping expenses down and allowing virtually all of the funds raised to stay with the PTA to fund technology for the school and other PTA programs.

While we may not be able to mimic what those large fundraising companies do, we'd like to make this run special for our Hilburn students which will require more effort than one person can handle!

February Hilburn Family Night Out

Family Night Out on Feb. 25

Hilburn Family Night Out for February will be back at The Kitchen Table at Relish on Tuesday, Feb. 25. This FNO lasts all day (9 a.m. to 10 p.m.) and is dine-in only. The Kitchen Table is located at 5629 Creedmoor Road, next door to Relish. Be sure to tell your server you are there supporting Hilburn, and a percentage of Hilburn sales will be donated to Hilburn PTA. Thanks!

Cultural Arts performance in February

Hilburn Academy hosting Board Advisory Council District 7 Meeting

Hilburn Academy and other schools in WCPSS District 7 take turns hosting Board Advisory Council meetings. Everyone is invited to the meeting on Thursday, Feb. 6 at 6:30 p.m. at Hilburn with District 7 School Board member Chris Heagarty. The topic of the Feb. 6 BAC meeting will be "Social/Emotional Support & Community Resilience."

PTA Membership approves budget amendments

Thank you to all our PTA members who attended our general membership meeting and Principal Chat on Jan. 23. PTA members approved midyear budget changes to fund First in Fitness T-shirts, Special Olympics T-shirts and other items.

Landscape architect advice needed

The Grounds & Garden co-chairs, in collaboration with school administrators, are looking for a landscape architect who can consult with us on a drainage issue on a popular path at school.
