I remember when...

... my husband held our first born for the first time. I think it was the precise moment he became a father. My heart grew more than I thought possible, loving the way he loved her. Later, he kissed me and said, "She makes us a family."

We are thrilled to announce that the second course in the Fourth Trimester School is all about "Relationships After Baby."

If your first baby changes everything in the life of a parent, multiply the chaos by two parents, then two by two to get miscommunications, irritability, sleep deprivation, lack of intimacy, and rage.

So, is it a surprise that two thirds of couples experience less satisfaction in their relationship after the birth of a baby?

Did you know that we can make it better?!

Join us this Valentine's Day in making a commitment to your relationship. Whether you are just beginning to plan your family or several years postpartum, prioritize the foundation of your family. Invest in your love and feel loved.

What can you expect in "Relationships After Baby"?

Abby, the author and instructor of "Prevent Postpartum Depression" is back with guest instructors, including:

Similar in format to our flagship course "Prevent Postpartum Depression," "Relationships After Baby" combines videos, readings, a private discussion forum, and questions for guided journaling and/or discussion with your partner in a self-paced course you can take on your own or together with your partner. As a bonus, there are tons of free handouts and worksheets to download!

Discounted pre-sales start February 1st, 2020. We will email a quick follow up on the 1st with the link! If you are considering enrolling, save money by purchasing it before the course launches on 2/14/20.

Babywearing research, hiking and the Kumeyaay women and children

I was proud to be able to sponsor a recent fundraiser for Nurturely, a non-profit committed to making evidence-based, traditional practices, such as babywearing and breastfeeding, more accessible to all. I enjoyed hiking with board member, Jessie, along the ancient site of a Kumeyaay women and children's gathering space. I also had the privilege of interviewing Nurturely founder, Emily Little, on her recently published research on babywearing. You can see a write up of it all on the Ergobaby blog here.

Emily made my night with her kind praise of the article.

I'm official!

I just passed the Postpartum Support International exam, the final step in obtaining certification in Perinatal Mental Health (PMH-C). ⁣When I first began specializing in perinatal mental health, there was no certificate or clear path to verify expertise and training. Although, I have found wonderful education on perinatal mental health (any/all by the Postpartum Stress Center, local training with Postpartum Health Alliance, and perinatal IPT with Dr Scott Stuart, to name a few) I applaud the work of PSI in creating a common standard. ⁣While their two-day training, which I took in December, may not present a lot of new material to those of us that have worked in the field and stay up on new findings, it is extremely well-researched and cited. I recommend it. ⁣Let me know if you have any questions about the process!

Individual therapy openings

I have a room for a few more individual therapy clients on Fridays and Saturdays in my San Diego practice (located in Clairemont.) In addition to perinatal loss and mood and anxiety disorders, I specialize in addiction, grief/loss, and life transitions. I am even toying with the idea of opening up one more day of the week. So if you know of someone that could be a good fit for me, please send them my way. I accept Flexible Savings Accounts, Health Savings Accounts, and private pay, and can provide superbills for PPO insurance. Please visit www.burdtherapy.com for more information or simply email to schedule a free 15 minute phone assessment.

Write back please...
