Visitation Team with Claire Smith

The United Methodist Church of Lenox has the active Mission Ministries Team for the local community has taken an active role in meeting and personally being involved with agencies and individuals in need.  Together we are making a difference within our community; personally showing our love and caring for people in need.

Sunday, after the sermon, about 7 people stayed to make hamburger soup for Soldier-On as well as deliver to their location so we could eat with them on Tuesday.  Tuesday morning we found out that Soldier-On had the need for the soup earlier and there wasn’t any soup for us to share on Tuesday at dinner time. According to Jason who is in charge said, "The soup has been devoured and all enjoyed! My guys accidentally put it out because it looked good and they got excited." We all have certain expectations of how things should pan out  but when we least expect it, God shows us a new way….a new path that wasn’t for seen. Tuesday, we still went to Soldier-On to visit and share the delicious chocolate chip bars. We are brought new blankets and socks to fill any needs that were not met. It was a different visit than planned but it was good. We had a good fellowship time with our church volunteers and  the veterans at Soldier-On by sharing a love of God.  Two people asked about our church and sounded like they would like to attend.  We encouraged each to attend if they want.

Also Mission Ministries Team lead a visitation ministry. Their goal is to reach out 4-6 homebound members monthly. Wednesday afternoon after the bible study, we visited Clair Smith and had a lunch together. She told us her recent adventure to North Carolina and we praised the hymns together because she always loves to sing and still has a beautiful voice.

As UMC of Lenox, why do we want to reach out to the community and the home bound? The answer: we want to connect to the UNCHURCHED and to the isolated people. According to our mission statement, we do our best to love our God and love our neighbor. The key to reaching out to the unchurched is to connect our story with people for whom we have affinity with because of our story.

What story do you have to share with the Unchurched and isolated people? How would you share it with them? I encourage you to share your story of faith with the people around you. When you share your story, your faith will  grow and mature in those relationships. and you may discover God in a new way that you’ve never known before.
