🌙 How to celebrate Lunar New Year in Seattle

Will you go walking in a winter wonderland this weekend? Thanks for tagging us in this shot from Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, Jordan! ❄️

What Seattle is talking about

Seattle Police have released the names and photos of the two suspects from Wednesday evening’s downtown shooting.

Anyone who spots either of the 24-year-old suspects is asked to call 911 immediately.

One person died in the shooting and seven others — including a 9-year-old boy — were injured. Four of the victims were released from the hospital as of Thursday; the three who remained hospitalized were either in serious or satisfactory condition.

Gunfire broke out after two men got into an argument outside the McDonald’s at Third and Pike, sending witnesses running into nearby businesses for cover. It was the third shooting in two days in downtown Seattle. Police Chief Carmen Best said SPD is responding by adding more officers to the area.

Third and Pine has long been a problem area for crime, and police have routinely announced “emphasis patrols” targeting the intersection. In 2015, then-mayor Ed Murray rolled out the 9½ Block Strategy to improve safety in the downtown retail core.

The effort netted hundreds of arrests, but its effects have proven to be short-lived.

In other news…

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has accused the crown prince of Saudia Arabia of hacking into his cell phone with a WhatsApp text message. The 2018 hacking, according to U.N. experts, was done in response to critical reporting from The Washington Post, which is owned by Bezos. At the time, The Post was publishing critical opinion pieces from Saudi writer Jamal Khashoggi, who was later killed at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul. (The New York Times)

Ballard’s brewery scene just got a little funkier. Fair Isle Brewing opened yesterday, bringing a fresh lineup of wild beers made from locally farmed and foraged ingredients. And good news for imbibers who have had it with kid-friendly breweries — this one is 21+. (My Ballard)

Hot ticket alert: Some big names are passing through town this year, and now is the time to grab your tickets. On sale today: Ilana Glazer, Alicia Keys, Barenaked Ladies, Hall & Oates, and more. (The Stranger)

Have a good weekend, all. We’ll catch ya on Monday. ✌️
