Dear friends in Jesus, our Good Shepherd,
It feels good to be back in The Woodlands once again! Pastor Andy and I travelled to snowy Chicago this past week to attend the WELS National Conference on Lutheran Leadership. There were over 800 people from WELS churches and schools from all over North America. The attendance was double from the initial expectation. It was nice to see so many familiar faces. It was also very beneficial to grow together in the Word and be encouraged and guided in our ministry practices. May God guide and bless the working of his Word at our church here and at our sister churches everywhere. I pray God has given you a good week!
Our Theme for This Sunday: You Are Illuminated by the Light
Jesus appears as the light that shines in the darkness. Dark places remain covered in the shadow of sin and unbelief. Now there are, however, bright places, too, and there you find God’s children. Jesus shines his light by preaching repentance and the good news of the nearing kingdom, and he invites us to follow him to a life illuminated by him. In our other Scripture readings, we will hear that following Jesus means living in the joy of freedom (First Reading) and walking in the light of love for God and brother (Second Reading).

Him + Her Worship: Sunday, February 2
This is a husband-and-wife worship duo from Minnesota who will be joining us to accompany our worship service on Sunday, February 2. They will present their story to us during Bible Hour.

Hi there! We are Seth and Jenna Herlich, and we are Him + Her Worship. We are really excited to be with you on February 2! It is our full-time job to travel, playing worship music and sharing our story in churches around the country!
We are super passionate about awakening hearts for Jesus and creating worship environments that are comfortable for all people. We encourage you to come and also invite your friends and family, especially those who do not know Jesus! We do our best to be real and authentic, and we believe that God works through us to heal and encourage people with His Word. We sing both familiar songs and original worship music! We would love for you to come sing and worship with us!

2020 Chili Cook-Off — Saturday, February 22
Teams
Please consider forming a team. Our goal is 15-20 teams for the chili cook-off. Sign up by February 2.
How much chili?
Please make 3-4 crockpots of chili.
Booths
Each team has a 10’x10’ tent with: power for crock-pots; 8’ table; tablecloth; skirting; cups for chili; spoons; paper towels. You may decorate the booth as simple or extravagant as you wish (see below).
Chili Cook-Off Day Schedule
Arrive any time after 12pm. Have booth and chili ready by 2:45pm. The event is from 3-6pm. Have someone in booth at all times. Please allow time after the event for clean-up of property.
Ministry Goal
Be friendly and welcoming to our guests at your booth. This supports our outreach to the community by building bridges and promoting Good Shepherd.

Bonfire at the home of Tim and Sherry Michalk
On February 8, the Michalks will have a bonfire especially for families with children. This is an opportunity for kids and parents to form bonds of friendship. Main dish, water, and juice provided. Bring a side, other beverages if you prefer, chairs and games.

Pastor Andy received a Divine Call to serve as the pastor at First Lutheran Church in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. He welcomes your input, thoughts and prayers as he deliberates where the Lord may best use his abilities to serve in Christ’s kingdom.

Our next Voters Meeting is after worship on Sunday, February 9. Please plan to come!
Conroe Bible Study
Please join us on Sunday, February 23, at 4:00 pm, at the home of Jan Paulson for Bible study and a meal to follow (515 Northwood Dr., Conroe, TX 77303). The theme: "Can I Tell You a Story?" This is a narrative evangelism Bible study. "The power of stories + the difficulty of witnessing = a perfect match for sharing Christ." Our first lesson is "Jesus and Jairus."
