In late November we got a sneak peak at how the Community Centre was progressing. Here we are standing in the shallow end of the pool, the deep end is 12 feet. As we get closer to opening day we will share more photos. Wait until you see the double gym and walking track.

This newsletter shares important information on the Wuhan novel coronavirus. In addition information on the Spring and Summer Registration, Taste of Oakville, Camp Molly, surveys on Waste management (your input is appreciated), a Climate change forum and more.
Here are a few highlights of what is coming up on the Council Agenda:
We are looking forward to receiving reports February 27 from the Community Energy Task Force and a Downtown construction update. On March 3 we have a special meeting (7 pm start) to discuss the status of Cannabis regulations and the Town's opt out decision a year ago. As a reminder regular Council meetings now start at 6:30pm to allow time to address both Community Services and Administrative Services agenda items. Planning and Development and Special Council meetings will continue to start at 7 pm.
At the January 15th meeting of Regional Council, annual appointments were made for the various Regional committees, as well as for Chairs & Vice-Chairs. Ward 7 Councillor Pavan Parmar was appointed Chair, Planning and Public Works, and Ward 3 Councillor Dave Gittings was appointed Chair, Health and Social Services.
As we are putting this newsletter together we are anticipating another snow storm. Here is a list of frequently asked questions on our Snow program. You can get 24-hour information by calling the town's snow information line at 905-815-5999. Or you can track the progress of the snowplows at Snow Tracker.

Learn about how the Ministry of Health is preparing for the Wuhan novel coronavirus in Ontario, and how to protect yourself, what to do if you’re sick after you travel and how to recognize possible symptoms.
Every week day at 10:30 a.m. ET, the Province of Ontario web page will be updated with the most up-to-date information on the status of cases in Ontario, including; Status of cases in Ontario, how Ontario is preparing, Symptoms, and how to protect yourself and additional details. Dr. Hamidah Meghani is our Medical Officer/Commissioner of Health and is the statutory public official responsible for Public Health in Halton. The team is working with the Province ensuring all best practices are in place.

We're offering a wide variety of programs for all ages and abilities this spring and summer! Browse the interactive guide or pick up a copy at Recreation and Culture facilities, libraries and Town Hall.
Registration opens for:
- Residents on Saturday, February 8
- Seniors Services 50+ on Tuesday, February 18, and
- Non-residents on Friday, February 21.
To register online, you will need a family PIN and personal ID for each person you are registering. You can create an account or update your information online at any time.

The Town of Oakville, is partnering with our neighbouring fire departments – the City of Burlington, and the towns of Milton and Halton Hills — to present this unique opportunity for 30 young women aged 15 to 18 years to learn what it’s like to have a career in the fire services – beyond fire suppression.

Come Share YOUR Voice

All residents are welcome to attend an open space discussion about the impacts of Climate Change in our community. The goal of this evening is to give concerned citizens of Halton an opportunity to speak about issues that matter to them and to come away with actionable solutions.
Activists at all levels - seniors and students, executives and employees, politicians and voters - can add value to this process. Flagging issues that need attention, creating space for authentic conversations, proposing solutions, and building coalitions around policy that will accelerate the implementation of solutions, all are open for discussion. Choosing those that best align with your individual and collective capacity and interests is an important determinant of longevity and impact.

Reducing community waste is one of the many ways that we can work together to protect the environment. Halton Region continues to provide curbside collection services (including Blue Box and Green Cart) and drop-off programs at the Halton Waste Management Site (HWMS) that make it easy to reduce your individual and household waste.

The Halton Environmental Network has partnered with Value Chain Management International, a global food consultancy group and leader in identifying and analyzing food loss and waste, in a cutting edge study: Make Every Bite Count
This project will help us understand the Carbon "FoodPrint" of household food waste and guide future programmes to reduce our environmental impacts.
