Researchers who are experts in research translation are often characterized by their deep commitment to working with others to improve people’s lives.
Dr Janet Kelly, one of our translation research project leads from the University of Adelaide epitomises these qualities.
We would like to acknowledge and thank Janet and her husband Tim for their contribution to the emergency service response to the recent bushfires in the Adelaide Hills and Kangaroo Island.
Janet and Tim have worked tirelessly with the rest of our CFS heroes as part of the incident management team – tracking and anticipating the fires, pulling in fire appliances and strike teams as needed, getting community warnings out, and closing roads. They also assisted with the search for people and houses to save in fire affected areas, putting out spot fires and saving trees where they could.
“Tim and I have a method where you end up climbing inside the base of this tree once you have cooled it down enough, and treat it like a chimney fire. You shoot the water up inside each of the hollow trunk/branches and feel the temperature of the water and foam raining back down again. If it is warm you keep going until it is cold. Then you follow each of the root systems into the ground to make sure you put them out. We have to save these old trees or there will be none left. We lost so many again in this fire.”
When she is not protecting us from fires, Dr Janet Kelly works collaboratively with Aboriginal community members and health and research professionals in urban, rural and remote areas to improve health care experiences and outcomes for Indigenous people. Welcome Agustina!
Our new Senior Project Officer

We are delighted to welcome Agustina to our team at Health Translation SA. As our new Senior Project Officer, she is responsible for the implementation of consumer engagement activities within SAHMRI and national consumer engagement partner organisations.
Agustina has a PhD in Population Health, through which she gained experience in public health program planning,
|
|
|
implementation and evaluation. Most recently, she was a project manager at the Centre of Excellence on Partnership with Patients and the Public (CEPPP) in her hometown of Montreal, Canada, where she was responsible for the evaluation of patient partnership projects in research and stakeholder organisations.

Health Translation SA (HTSA) is holding a Research Impact Showcase to showcase exciting South Australian research projects that are ‘driving impact’.
All Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) Rapid Applied Research Translation and Flagship Programs project teams will provide short presentations highlighting the impact of their research followed by interactive sessions focusing on the key learnings on maximising the pathway to impact.

Health Translation SA is facilitating this initiative to implement the 17 recommendations included in the Review of Research Governance in the Department for Health and Wellbeing and related Local Health Network’s Report (the Birch Review).
If you are involved in medical, surgical, or allied health research and clinical trials, this is an opportunity to learn about further information on developments in South Australia.
A strategic leadership group – the SA Clinical Research Governance Steering Committee – has been established to drive this initiative and to date there has been significant work and engagement.

This three-day course will develop applied skills in cost-effectiveness analysis, each subsequent day will build on knowledge from the previous day.
Day one is a beginner’s guide to cost-effectiveness analysis and is offered as a stand-alone course. Days two and three cover building and evaluating cost-effectiveness models.
Who is this course designed for?
Policy makers, clinicians, researchers, managers, and others making or informing decisions. Academics and students will also benefit from this course.
