Urban Flood Protection Grant Program
The California Natural Resources Agency (CNRA) will be accepting project proposals for the Urban Flood Protection Grant Program from January 27, 2020 through March 25, 2020. The program, funded by Proposition 68, seeks projects that address flooding in urbanized areas and provide multiple benefits. Approximately $87.5 million will be awarded in an anticipated two funding cycles. Applicants submitting the most competitive proposals will be invited to participate in the next level of the competitive process, estimated to begin in mid-June 2020. Projects must be completed by March 2024 (based on current appropriation information).
"We strongly encourage Network members to explore this grant opportunity. Urban forestry funding for the next fiscal year is very uncertain, with the proposed Budget released by the Newsom Administration providing zero dollars for Urban Forestry and Urban Greening grant programs for FY 20-21. Cost pressures on Cap and Trade dollars could squeeze out both of these priorities, and any resources/resiliency bond that moves forward will not go into effect until 2021, if passed by the voters in November. This program explicitly allows for tree planting and green alleys as eligible projects to address flooding in urbanized areas, with nonprofits directly eligible for funding." - Cindy Blain, Executive Director of California ReLeaf
CNRA will be hosting technical assistant workshops in Norwalk, Redding, Sacramento, Fremont, San Diego, Imperial, Indio, and Fresno. Click here for grant guidelines and workshop details.
