This month Spaulding will launch the National Training and Development Curriculum Program in 8 pilot sites – Kansas, Colorado, Illinois, Florida, Missouri, Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, Georgia and Oklahoma.
The curriculum will be tested and rigorously evaluated through the year before being released to all states, tribes and territories.
The National Training and Development Curriculum (NTDC) is a new curriculum that is based on research and input from experts, families who have experience with fostering or adopting children, and former foster and adoptive youth. The course of study will provide potential foster or adoptive parents the information and tools needed to parent a child who has experienced trauma, separation, or loss.
The curriculum is a state-of-the-art classroom and online program that helps to prepare prospective foster and adoptive parents to be successful parents. In addition, the NTDC gives parents access to information and resources needed to continue building skills once they have a child in their home.
NTDC participants will learn about a variety of topics, such as:
How to create a safe, stable, and nurturing home environment.
Trauma-informed parenting, or how a child’s experience of trauma changes the way you parent that child.
Attachment, or building an emotional bond between the child and the parent.

The child welfare system is not commonly featured in films. Most often, the child welfare system is only identified in mainstream media when there is a tragedy affecting a child or family.
This is unfortunate when you consider that almost half a million children and their families are involved with the child welfare system on an annual basis. There are few people in our country outside of those directly involved with the child welfare system who truly understand or even know it exits.

"Instead of portraying one angel of the system, this documentary utilizes exquisite storytelling to show the system through the eyes of birth parents, young adults who are or were involved with the child welfare system, foster and adoptive parents, and caseworkers. The film leaves the viewer driven to want to do something to make a difference in the lives of these children and families."

UPS Grants Caring Community Program
Thanks to UPS, Spaulding will be developing the Caring Community Program, a new volunteer initiative in 2020.
The new program will entail penetrating new communities from which to recruit volunteers, including senior citizens, faith-based communities, and business organizations. The initiative also will identify new ways to best utilize volunteers for all the needs SFC has. The new program will include specialized training for volunteers.
The goal is to have 30 new volunteers trained and active by September 2020.

UPS’s support of SFC is ongoing. They provided volunteers for the 2019 Families in Bloom event. The brown UPS truck was quite an attraction for youngsters and grown-ups. Next time you see a UPS delivery person – please say, "Thanks from Spaulding!"

Spaulding received a donation exceeding $4,000 from the United Shore Engagement Teamwhich comes from their employee Pay it Forward community outreach program. Employees from the program designated that the monies (collected by and from United Shore Employees) be used to purchase children’s uniforms, school supplies and sports equipment.

With the QIC-AG’s six key messages as a guide, this presentation will highlight the practical tools, materials, and content created by QIC-AG and offer participants a deeper understanding of how the work of the QIC-AG could be useful for members of the child welfare community, as well as allied professionals.

40th Anniversary Gala Fundraiser
in April to Support Spaulding
You may recall students from Annette and Company School of Dance performed at Families in Bloom last April. The program helped show how the performing arts play inspiring roles in our communities and for ourselves.
Now, the team at Annette and Company are readying a special performance. Every five years, they select a children’s charity as the beneficiary of their fundraiser. This year, they have designated SFC!
Mark your calendars for the Annette and Co. 40th Anniversary Gala on Sunday, April 19 at Andiamo in Warren. The evening includes a dinner and performance by students and alumni, as well as a live auction featuring great packages for travel, entertainment and fun. Tickets are $55 each and you can reserve a table for $550.

Please know there are many other reasons to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Farmington Hills-based dance studio. Over the years Annette and Company have welcomed hundreds of students and trained them to become very skilled dancers. Some have gone on to professional careers.
Annette and Company are known for their unique approach to the dance curriculum. Every student there learns to dance without sacrificing the joys of childhood and life.
Having worked with thousands of children over the past four decades, Annette and Company has first-hand knowledge of the importance of having a committed family to ensure the success of children – on stage, in school and throughout life.
