Rescuing nature's bounty for the benefit of our community

The End of Apples, for now

This week will be our final apple harvest of the season! We've also got more kiwis, and the beginning of the citrus abundance. See below for harvest details, and keep an eye out for more additions to the calendar in the coming days.
Monday, January 20th
Martin Luther King Jr. Day

"Why should there be hunger and deprivation in any land, in any city, at any table, when man has the resources and the scientific know-how to provide all mankind with the basic necessities of life? There is no deficit in human resources. The deficit is in human will."
~ Martin Luther King Jr., 1964

“I have the audacity to believe that peoples everywhere can have three meals a day for their bodies, education and culture of their minds, and dignity, equality, and freedom for their spirits."
~ MLK Jr. Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech, Oslo, Norway, 1964

Please keep in mind that our first priority is harvesting for the Food Bank and its recipients. Each farm/site is different and will have varying preferences as to what we do with blemished fruits and vegetables. Please bring a reusable bag in the event that there is produce for volunteers to take home. Hope to see you out there!

GleanSLO's volunteers rescued over 270,000 lbs of fresh, local produce in 2017 alone, and over 1 Million pounds since our beginning in 2010!
Through the act of harvesting and sharing food, we connect and nourish our community to build stronger relationships and a deeper appreciation for our food.
