In our text from the Gospel of John (John 1:29-42) John the Baptist refers to Jesus as a sacrificial lamb. As we celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. day we can think of what happened in those difficult and transformational years in a similar way:

King, and many others, lifted up the sin of the world so that it could not be avoided, it had to be seen and dealt with, and it became so obvious and awful, that never again could it have the same power. Never again could systems of racial injustice simply be accepted as the way the world is. We know from King and others that this lifting up is a costly thing, and the cross is our constant witness to this.

By embodying and witnessing to the love of God for all, King and so many other people of great faith have shown us the alternative world: a world of God’s love and mercy, a world that is so much more beautiful and wonderful, that we won’t settle for the old world anymore.

Messy Church services:
On Saturday, January 18, we will go into the community to help members who need our brawn and brains. We will meet at the church at 10:00 a.m. and come back for lunch at noon.

Souper Bowl of Caring!
Chili/soup cook-off. Bring your entry to this event on February 2. Deacons are hosting. Please bring a can or more of soup for those in need.

Women's Retreat
February 8, 2020 - 8:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
This event will be held at the church. Breakfast and lunch provided. Copies of Coffee Break with God are available to all who attend.

New Year, New Member Class
Anyone interested in learning more about PC(USA)? Rev. Ann will lead this class. Please let the church office know 818-788-1147

Spiff - Up Day save the date!
Our next time to organize and do a little cleaning will be on Saturday, March 7 from 8:30 a.m. - noon. Come for the entire time of for an hour. All ages are welcome. Let Ruth know if you are coming so the tasks can be readied for you.
