Winter Connections and Exciting New Projects

On the Hill
This Winter as planned, I moved from the camp back up the hill to the Mountain Queen Cabin.  But this time Taz and I are not alone in the cabin.  My two youngest sons and grandson all decided to live in the cabin with me. Although it can be a tight fit at times, I am so grateful for an opportunity to spend time with my sons in their young adult lives and witness a beautiful father-son connection.
Camp Earth Connection is a wonderful place for family connections, community and friendship.  This Spring we have some new accommodations being constructed to offer even more variety to the campground, offering guests the opportunity to try "camping" and connecting with nature in fun and creative ways.  In thinking of how to best describe the environment of Camp Earth Connection, it is now being called a "Woodland Campground."  The campground will opens Friday, May 1st, although there are a couple of "winterized cabins" currently available to rent.  There will be an open-house with tours, fun activities and snacks on Saturday, June 20th.  Looking forward to connecting soon.
In Peace & Gratitude,
Eshay & Taz
Six Rustic Cabin
Camp Earth Connection, formerly known as Camp Ketapilua was built in the early 70's to offer children and their families camping experiences in the nature. Six Lean-to's (3 sided buildings) along with pavilions and an "office cabin" were built and interspersed throughout 17 acres in the forest for children to gather with their camp groups.
Preserving the Final Lean To
In the last 18 years since I have become the steward of this beautiful camp, repairing and preserving the original structures have been a priority. It was a fulfilling moment when the 6th Rustic Cabin's new roof and floor were completed.  The Coyote's Den is ready for the final step: the screened doors. windows and interior work.
CREATIVE NEW CAMPING ACCOMMODATIONS
This Spring 3 Camping Pods will be constructed.  These unique structures are made of Nordic Spruce, are totally enclosed with a door and window w/screen.  They will be located in shaded private Forest Campsites which have picnic tables, fire pits and tent-sites.  Pods will either have two twin beds or a full bed and sleep up to two people.
Also new in 2020 is our Tree Tents.  These 1-2 person tents are designed and sold by Tentsile, a company who shares similar values as Camp Earth Connection. Tree tents do not harm the trees and also provide the comfort of being off the ground and in the forest.  Our Tree Tent site has a shared fire circle and plenty of space for gathering .  Sleeping Hammocks are also available.

Ruffed Grouse Snow Beds
by Linda Spielman

When the snow gets deep and temperatures go down, ruffed grouse have a wonderful way of staying warm overnight. They can’t climb down into woodchuck burrows the way rabbits do, or follow narrow openings down to warmer depths like weasels. And they don’t curl up with their tails over their heads like foxes. But they … Continue reading "Ruffed Grouse Snow Beds"
