In January 1984, President Ronald Reagan issued a proclamation designating Sunday, January 22, as the first National Sanctity of Human Life Day. Each year since Sanctity of Human Life Day is observed on the third Sunday of January in remembrance of the Roe v. Wade decision in which the Supreme Court legalized abortion-on-demand in all 50 states. In the 47 years since that decision, nearly 62 million lives have been lost, and countless others deeply wounded by abortion.
Churches around the United States use the day to celebrate God’s gift of life, commemorate the many lives lost to abortion, and commit themselves to protect human life at every stage.
Ways for your church to honor Sanctity of Human Life
- Host a Baby Bottle Campaign during the month of January
- Collect a one-time offering for Life Care on Sunday, January 19th
- Become a Monthly Partner to support the mission and work of Life Care
- Schedule a Life Care Speaker to speak at your Church during the month of January
- Host a Baby Shower and collect baby items to donate to Life Care for families in need
- Commit to PRAY for the end of abortion
