Our work and projects outside Calabar Gallery focus on 3 special projects: Greenville Art Walk, Amref Artball and Destiny, an exhibition at the Jersey City Theater Center. Greenville Art Walk curated by Atim Annette Oton is every First Sunday in Jersey City. Next one is February 2, 2020.
We are excited about our involvement in Greenville Art Walk, a monthly art series and gallery popup events in 2020 every first Sunday featuring art exhibitions in storefront spaces along Martin Luther King Drive and other areas in the community as part of the Stories of Greenville and spearheaded by Jersey City Theater Center. Through Stories of Greenville, JCTC spearheads a multidisciplinary arts project designed to bring exposure to Greenville artists – including visual artists, filmmakers, writers, poets, musicians, dancers and performers – by creating a series of workshops, events, educational programs and performances in one of Jersey City’s oldest but most vibrant neighborhoods. JULIE MEHRETU AT AMREF ARTBALL 2020
Seeking Contemporary African art work as a donation for the 2020 Amref Health Africa ArtBall, a premier contemporary African art auction and philanthropic event the will happen on May 2, 2020 in New York City. Artists Wangechi Mutu, El Anatsui, Toyin Odutola and Zanele Muholi were honored with the Rees Visionary Award over the last 4 years respectively.
In 2020, Amref will be honoring Ethiopian Artist Julie Mehretu with the Rees Visionary Award.

Jersey City Theater Center presents DESTINY: LOCAL TO GLOBAL PERSPECTIVES, an exhibition exploring the multiple meanings of destiny in the world today. The show is curated by Atim Annette Oton, Jersey City Theater' Center's art curators who posed the questions for artists to respond to:
What is Destiny? Are we bound for destiny or does destiny happen to us? Is it coincidence or synchronicity? Do we determine our fate or victims of it? What does our society of diverse & complex human beings believe or avoid believing? What are the cultural norms and do conform to or rebel against those norms? Do artists create, interpret or include destiny?
Destiny features a group of 16 culturally diverse artists:
Geraldine Anderson Gaines, Ian "Billy Bones" Murphy, Nanette Reynolds Beachner, Grigory Gurevich, Catalina Aranguren, Janhavi Firke, Erin Kuhn, Lawrence Ciarallo, Monika Kalra, Tyber Qalipu Mishipeshu Murphy, Donchelle Fulwood, Duda Penteado, Anna Kasperowitz, David James, Cecilia Martinez, and Akil Roper.

This year, Atim Annette Oton will serve on the host committee for the annual Bronx Charter School for the Arts (Bronx Arts) Fundraiser. Bronx Charter School for the Arts (Bronx Arts) is a public school founded on the principle that a rich and vibrant background in the arts is a key component of achieving academic excellence. Bronx Arts is in its 15th year of operation serving students in Hunts Point and Soundview areas of the Bronx.
The event will take place on April 27 at the Sugarhill Children's Museum in Harlem.

Emerging And Established Caribbean Artists is an exhibition of the work of Caribbean artists in the US, Caribbean, Europe and across the world focused on Caribbean Spirituality, Identity and Change globally. Boundaries and Connections: Mapping Harlem Trails and Black and Native American Histories is an innovative arts project onsite project and series of exhibitions using art, performance and story telling in Fall 2020 proposed by Atim Annette Oton on a New York island.
It will involve six to ten selected artists who will spend a month creating work about the theme, Boundaries and Connections, through multimedia, painting, photography and other mediums. Curated by Atim Annette Oton, 2 exhibitions will explore how shifting boundaries and community histories are interpreted in through art, story telling, performance and multimedia.
We are seeking 6 to 8 Harlem based artists who are currently working or have worked on Harlem, Black and Native American Histories to participate in an 3 week onsite arts residency. All work of art will considered, including 2 and 3 dimensional pieces, installation, mixed-media, and photography.
