Mac Apps I Couldn't Live Without.

This is a list of my favorite apps, that are not specifically design-related but make me a better designer 💪🏽

Notion: In Notion, I manage, plan, write, collaborate, and get organized for everything. EVERYTHING. It has replaced Trello, Evernote, and Todoist for me.

BetterSnaptool. This app allows you to easily manage your window positions and sizes by either dragging them to one of the screen's corners or to the top, left, or right side of the screen. I know the site looks a bit 90's and the UI of the app is kind of bad, but believe me, you'll love me for this one. No more awkwardly resizing and repositioning your windows around!

Contrast: I continuously use this macOS app to quickly check if the colors of my text and background meet the WCAG color contrast ratios—making it easier to design for accessibility! Also, it's just a great color picker, lol.

Grammarly: This tool makes it look like I write better than I do. It checks all my grammar horrors (not just the orthography) on my emails, documents, essays, and video scripts. I especially love how you can set the tone and audience of your writing to make better suggestions. I'm actually using it to write this email right now, ha!

Kap. I use this app to record small videos in which I need to capture my screen. I love that it has a simple editor at the and lets me export to MP4 and GIF.

Craft InVision: Ok, this one is totally design related—but it isn't a design tool per se. This plugin/mac app lets you publish your prototypes to the cloud. I regularly use it at work to put stuff on Freehand.

Alfred: This is Spotlight on steroids. It has hotkeys, keywords, text expansion, and custom actions. I especially like being able to access my clipboard history and snippets.

Nord VPN: encrypts your internet traffic and hides your IP and physical location. Which... allows you to watch Netflix from different countries, lol.

WhatsApp. It's just the regular messaging app, but on your laptop. Great for when you don't wanna be distracted by your phone but still be in contact with your peeps.

Dropbox. I just put all my stuff on this thing—which is kind of scary. I tried Google Drive for a while, but I just couldn't understand it. Dropbox felt like a better fit for me. I also love being able to use Paper.

Flux. Makes the color of your computer's display adapt to location and time of day. Great to rest your eyes during night-time use. If you already have macOS Catalina, then you can skip this app and simply use Night Shift!

What about you? What are your favorite non-design apps? What alternatives do you suggest?

BTW, I've been putting a lot of content like this on my IG, in case you wanna follow me :)
