LOCAL NEWS

SUBURBAN RAIL LOOP A

DRAWCARD FOR THE WORLD'S

BEST

Leading architects, engineers and urban planners from around the world are flocking to Melbourne to spearhead the design and development of the new Suburban Rail Loop.

The Suburban Rail Loop is a 90 kilometre rail line that will circle Melbourne’s middle suburbs - it will connect every major rail line from the Frankston line to Werribee line and Melbourne Airport Rail.

The loop through Melbourne’s suburbs will connect where people live to jobs, schools, universities and hospitals.

It will cut congestion across the entire transport network, removing thousands of cars from the roads and re-directing thousands of passengers from existing train services.

This city-shaping project will complement the Melbourne Airport Rail and Metro Tunnel projects already underway as part of Victoria’s Big Build – while also providing better connectivity for regional Victoria.

MAJOR BOOST FOR WERRIBEE

COMMUNITY THROUGH

SIGNIFICANT SPORTING EVENTS

PROGRAM

The Werribee community has been given a major boost, with Equestrian Victoria receiving funding from the Andrews Labor Government’s Significant Sporting Events Program to host a number of exciting events between 2020 and 2022.

Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre will be hosting the:
  • Dressage & Jumping with the Stars from March 19 - 21, 2020
  • 2020 Melbourne International 3 Day Event, over the Queen's birthday weekend
  • Australasian Show Horse and Rider Championships from December 3 - 5, 2020
  • Australian Interschools Equestrian Championships from December 4 - 8, 2021
The $17.7 million Significant Sporting Events Program supports organisations to deliver sporting events that are national or international in focus, or have regional significance and are recognised by a relevant sporting body.

They bring competitors, officials and supporters to our communities, stimulate the local economy and inspire more people to stay active and healthy through sport.

Across Victoria, the Government has invested more than $850 million in community sport and active recreation infrastructure since 2014.

FREE STATEWIDE CAR SEAT

FITTINGS & SAFETY CHECKS

KICK OFF

The Andrews Labor Government is delivering on its commitment to provide Victorian families with free, expert child care seat fittings and safety checks to keep their little passengers safe.

Through the new $4 million Safe Seats, Safe Kids Program, Kidsafe Victoria and Neighbourhood Houses Victoria will provide free car seat fittings and safety checks in every local government area across Victoria at various locations including neighbourhood houses and community centres.

At these events, professional fitters will inspect child car seats to make sure they’re installed and being used correctly.

Parents and carers will also be provided with information on how to check if their precious cargo is travelling safely.

Victoria is the first state to roll out a comprehensive statewide fitting and safety check program after it was revealed around 70 per cent of child car restraints are not fitted or used correctly – making injury up to seven times more likely.

Parents and carers can register their interest to attend a child car seat safety check session at http://kidsafevic.com.au/road-safety/free-child-car-restraint-checking-program/

EASING REGO PRESSURE FOR

MILLIONS OF VICTORIANS

The Andrews Labor Government has eased the pressure that paying vehicle registration can put on Victorians, with 1.8 million Victorian vehicles paid through short-term registration over the last year.

Short term registration allows vehicle owners to pay less upfront and spread the cost of renewing their registration across the year, providing more flexibility in the budget.

Since short term registration was launched on 1 January 2018, almost a third of all light vehicle registrations have been processed using flexible three-month and six-month registration options.

Around 1.2 million of these vehicles were paid for using the three-month registration option, with the remaining 630,000 choosing the six-month registration period.

Three months of registration in metropolitan Melbourne costs $211.20, with the six-month registration cost at $419.90, and a full 12-month fee of $834.80.

To register your vehicle for short term registration or to find out more information, visit www.vicroads.vic.gov.au.

On 15 January 2020, the latest round of offers were released by the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC).

The Andrews Labor Government’s investment is changing perceptions of TAFE so that it is as valued as a university course.

Now is the perfect time for students to consider TAFE as an option for further study!

Students can access the Victorian Skills Gateway to:

  • Explore jobs and career options at TAFE
  • Obtain information about starting an apprenticeship or traineeship
  • Access career advice
  • Find out about Free TAFE options
  • Access more information about their local TAFE campus
To see where TAFE can take you or someone you know, please visit https://www.skills.vic.gov.au/

Additionally, the Andrews Labor Government has added the Certificate III and Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care to the Free TAFE list for 2020.

As three-year old universal kinder is rolled out across Victoria, we need more qualified early childhood staff to meet the growing demand.

These courses are available at TAFEs all across Victoria, including at Victoria University Polytechnic in Werribee.

For more information and inquiries, please visit https://skills.vic.gov.au/victorianskillsgateway/.

Don't forget - Victoria has now banned single-use plastic bags.

You can drop-in to my Watton Street electorate office during the week to pick up your free reuseable shopping bag!

GRANTS, AWARDS &

Werribee is home to a community of wonderful musicians at all career stages, and our vibrant music scene plays an important role in Victoria’s standing as Australia’s music heartland.

The latest round of the Andrews Labor Government's Music Works Program is open to professional musicians and bands, music organisations, managers, technicians and venues working in all contemporary music genres and at all career stages.

Grants of between $2,500 and $20,000 are available for individuals and up to $75,000 for groups and organisations.

The program supports projects in three categories:
