 Practical Solutions to Challenging Problems

Jomas provide practical solutions to geo-environmental and geotechnical issues in the context of land development. We achieve this by obtaining quality data, liaising closely with designers, regulators, multi-disciplinary associates, and by drawing on a wealth of experience and expertise to provide design, remediation and mitigation options to suit the budget of the proposed development.

By keeping our client involved at each stage, we are able to maintain a holistic and cost-effective approach to our proposed solutions.

Recent Examples:
Mine Shafts in West Bromwich – Suspected mine shafts are currently being investigated ahead of a proposed commercial extension. The site is a busy office and car park. The first phase of investigation includes the use of geophysics to enable a targeted follow-on intrusive investigation. The most suitable method of remediation will then be advised. We are closely liaising with the client and the Coal Authority to ensure the investigation and remediation is carried out to the satisfaction of all stakeholders.

Natural Burial Ground in Wiltshire – Working with a family-run funeral director and the local authority, we carried out a hydrogeological assessment to demonstrate that a natural burial ground would not adversely impact controlled waters. Our involvement lead to the approval of the development.
Hotel with Double Basement in Fulham – Working with a private developer, a geotechnical assessment was carried out for the construction of a two-storey basement. This included options and recommendations for temporary and permanent works, and dewatering considerations.

Hackney Wick Vapour Assessment – An acute and sub-chronic vapour assessment was carried out for the phased redevelopment of a large site that was significantly impacted by petroleum hydrocarbons during its former industrial use. This involved our technical expertise and regular stakeholder engagement to derive acceptable criteria for assessment and for the provision of practical mitigation options.

Groundwater Assessment in Watford – A programme of groundwater chemical monitoring was agreed with the Environment Agency and carried out to determine the potential impact of piled foundations to a Principal Aquifer.
