How closely are you following Jesus?

As our Epiphany sermon series "Gifts that Keep on Giving" continues this week, Pastor Tina invites us to consider the mindset of the disciples of John who hear him proclaim Jesus as the "Lamb of God" who will take away the sins of the world.

How closely do we follow Jesus?

Are you a "believer?" – You profess Jesus as Lord, but you don't ever approach him up close.

Are you a "follower?" – You follow Jesus where he's going, but you're hesitant, not wanting to get too close.

Or are you a "disciple?" – You follow Jesus everywhere. You ask questions. You make mistakes and are willing to submit to his correction.

Think about where you are in proximity to Jesus this week and draw closer by reflecting on this week's scripture (John 1:29–42) and listening to and sharing this week's sermon, "The Gift of Unbridled Curiosity."

Where have you seen Jesus this week? Have you gotten up close and personal, or have you watched from the sidelines?

What does your name mean? Why do you think your parents chose that name? Why does John call Jesus the "lamb of God?"

When you do find Jesus what would it look like to tell someone else about him and bring them to Jesus?

Are you curious enough about Jesus to track him down? Are there questions you're desperate to have answered? What are they?

Pardon the Dust!

Paris Church continues to grow through investments in and improvements to the infrastructure we have been blessed with through the work of those who have gone before us.

Over the past few weeks, we've highlighted the upstairs bathroom remodel and the upgrades to the church sound system. Today let's take a look at the downstairs Sunday school rooms!

What do you do when you have more Sunday school classes than you have available rooms? You clean out the ones that have become storage rooms! Right after the annual retreat last month, our leadership went down and took some of the items downstairs into temporary storage so that we could repurpose these rooms to serve their intended purpose!
Just this month, more volunteers came to paint and set things up. Next time you're downstairs, take a look!

Go & Grow!

Our leadership created a new mission statement at this year's retreat: "Going in Service, Growing in Faith." What does it mean for you? We're asking everyone to do TWO things.

Thing One: Go in Service. Do something to support a ministry in the church through your time and talents.
Thing Two: Grow in Faith. Join or continue in a small group that will help you draw closer to God.

Are you still looking for inspiration for your "two things?" In the coming weeks, we'll have more information on existing small groups, new groups, and service opportunities!

Looking for a small group but not sure where you fit? Joel Peterson, our Outreach Director, is looking to start a group for young (in age and at heart) adults that we're tentatively calling "80's and 90's." Join us on Sunday, January 26th for worship as well as the congregational meeting at 10am between services.

Jesus Calls His First Disciples

As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” At once they left their nets and followed him.

Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.
