  • This is a great opportunity to hear about all the fantastic things happening at EMJS and upcoming events such as the Staff Appreciation Luncheon. We'll also be making the draw for one free entry to the Vancouver Island Parent Conference If you would like to enter the draw, but can't attend the meeting, please email comms@emjspac.ca
February is Parent Education Month!
  • On Tuesday, February 4th at 7pm, Shannon Husk, a registered clinical counsellor and Prevention and Community Engagement Service Provider, will present information related to children's screen time and internet safety, share helpful resources and websites, and answer your questions.
  • On Tuesday, February 18th at 7pm, Jennifer Gibson from Island Sexual Health will present her Approachable Adult workshop where she will discuss issues related to child and youth development and provide tips on how to be a knowledgeable and askable adult on topics related to sexual health.
  • For both presentations, refreshments will be available and childminding is provided for children aged 3+. Just a reminder that these presentations are for parents only.
  • The VIPC parent conference on Sat Feb 29 includes your choice of workshops, speakers, lunch and refreshments. Register at www.vipc.ca ($75 until Feb 10, $100 until Feb 20; deadline to enter our EMJS draw for a free entry is Thursday Jan 30).
Volunteers needed to help with our Staff Appreciation Luncheon
  • On Thursday, February 13th, the PAC is hosting our annual Staff Appreciation Luncheon. This is a chance for us to show the amazing EMJS staff how thankful we are for everything they do for our children.

  • The main dishes will be catered, but we need your help to complete the meal with salads, side dishes and desserts. We also need volunteers to help with set up and clean up, and would appreciate any donations of draw prizes.

  • If you would like to help, please sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0b4fa4ab2ca4fd0-staff
Chess sets are now in every classroom at EMJS
  • The PAC recently purchased chess sets for every class so students can practice their chess skills (chess lessons are also funded by the PAC). Extra chess sets were also given to the school as a legacy gift from last year's grade 5 students.
Friday run club
  • Students in grade 3, 4 or 5 are still welcome to join the Friday run club! The club meets every Friday morning at 8am by the annex. Parents will need to sign a waiver, which can be obtained from Ms. Nicolson (who arrives a few minutes before 8am on Fridays). If you have questions about the Friday run club, please contact Heather Macdonald or Ms. Nicolson.
Hot lunches
  • If you missed the order deadline for our lunches, not to worry - you can still order for the remaining weeks. The deadline to make any changes to your February hot lunch order is Wednesday, February 5th (https://emjs.hotlunches.net)
Interested in joining the PAC Executive next year?
  • If so, or if you know someone else who might want to get involved, please attend our PAC Annual General Meeting on April 23rd at 7pm. The PAC is a great way to meet other parents, stay informed on what is happening at EMJS and make a difference in your child's EMJS experience.

  • A number of our Exec members are leaving EMJS next year, so there are some spots we need to fill. In particular, we would welcome anyone who wants to do any of the following:
    • Coordinate hot lunches
    • Website administration
    • Treasurer
    • And last but certainly not least, PAC Chair!

  • More information on these positions is available here (short version) or here (long version)
In our community
What are some easy ways to help raise funds for the PAC?
You can let us know if you need an EMJS Thrifty Foods Smile Card or a Fairway Market Community Card on our https://emjs.hotlunches.net site where you order lunches, and we will order one for you and arrange to send it home with your child in a few weeks.
  • Your EMJS Thrifty Foods Smile Card can be loaded every time you shop and Thrifty Foods generously donates 5% of what you load on the card back to our school! We are fundraising for a gym projector that is high on the school's wishlist ($6000). Every little bit helps!
  • Load up your EMJS Fairway Market Community Card and use it at Fairway Markets the same way as the Smile Card.
  • When buying bread at Cobs Bread on Oak Bay Avenue, tell them you have a “Dough Raiser” account under the name “Margaret Jenkins”.
  • When buying shoes at Finn & Izzy on Oak Bay Avenue, tell them you would like to support Margaret Jenkins school.
  • Before your bottle returns are processed at any Return-It Bottle Depot location, let the attendant know you would like the payout to go to “École Margaret Jenkins PAC”
